- I was so giddy reading this, from beginning to end. I just adored Derrick’s and Arthur’s chemistry together, it was just positively electric. They were just so adorable too. Oh my god, the fake dating, the one bed, the constant doting, it was just all so perfect. 

- I love when couples have an inside phrase that means a lot to them. In this case, it’s “We can tie.” Because so much of Arthur’s life involved winning and competitions and he hated it. He hated that there always needed to be a winner in his family. Especially because he grew up with three older brothers and they were always the ones winning. The fact that Derrick saw this and tried his best to make Arthur feel like a winner without the competition was just so sweet.

- Derrick really is the perfect boyfriend. He heard Arthur say that being ignored was his big deal breaker in a relationship and he went out of his way to make sure Arthur was paid attention to. Going to town to get him coffee, playing chess with him, making certificates with him, helping out with the talent show, ugh, he’s just so good and I want him too.

- Arthur is also so sweet. He's so good with the kids, oh my god. It’s no wonder why they all adore him. He makes them all feel good about themselves and he found a talent for all the kids that felt like they didn’t have any. Like impressions for Taylor and super fast singing for Seth. He validated all of their feelings and he even got Taylor a Lego set version of Derrick’s hot rod. It’s really no wonder that Derrick and Arthur fell for each other.

- Everything about the car ride and the camping trip was just so magnificent. So romantic. So sexually charged too. I love their banter, their conversation, their chemistry, I can’t get over it. It’s all so good.

- I also love that even though this whole relationship started because Derrick was petty and wanted to get back at his ex, that ex barely showed up at all in this story. Steve absolutely did not matter. I do hope he’s miserable but you know what? Who fucking cares because Derrick is happy! He proposed to Arthur in the last chapter and it was the sweetest damn thing! I squealed! 

- There was actual communication this book. I never would have imagined. Yes, the initial goodbye before deployment was hasty and could’ve been better but I still thought it was pretty good. But what I mean is, after Arthur got mad over the volleyball thing and Derrick apologized a chapter later, I was just thrilled. And the way he apologized was by saving chocolate for a s’more for him! I agree with cousin Ingrid when that happened, “Awwww.”

- Derrick asking for explicit consent every single time before they “fake” kissed was so endearing. And also Arthur making sure Derrick was sober before kissing him for real, oh my god. Oh my lord, they are so good together.

- I almost forgot about Sabrina. She’s such a good bestie for Arthur and I think she’s hilarious. I do wish we saw a bit more of her but eh, the story isn’t about her.

Dislikes:

- Fuck Steve and his cheating ass.
