Sorry to bother you again. But Bible references (and art references) are kinda my thing. So, since I saw something about John losing his eye on your blog today: Itâs from the Bible. And guess where from: The Gospel of MARK! I see you laughing, Mark Gatiss.:D âAnd if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell.â This is about coming to Jesus âwith one eyeâ (meaning: being sincere../Part 1
Part 3/...whereas the eye youâre supposed to cast aside is the one that sees only earthly things. And then thereâs also a part in the Hebrew Bible. In the âSong of Songsâ. Yep, that erotic love poem.:) Where the groom tells his beloved bride that she has ravished/wounded his heart with âone eyeâ. The bride BTW is referred to as a âsisterâ, with the words âsisterâ and âspouseâ being used for the same person and entwined like this: âsister-spouseâ. (So, John really is Eurus in TFP, right?)
LOVELY!! I never received a Part 2, so Iâm sadly just posting these two, which are interesting bits on their own! LOL.
But yeah, Sherlock uses a lot of biblical imagery within the series, so I donât think itâs much of a stretch to think assume there are other, lesser known ones!Â
I donât really know how much more I can comment on this since the middle bit is missing D: BUT! Yes, I love the âJohnâs shot in the eyeâ theory, since there is a lot of supporting evidence for it but again, like blind theory, we could have just been creating an awesomer story than the one we ended up with :/
Also, for me, in Johnâs TAB theory, Eurus is the equivalent of Moriarty in Sherlockâs MP â the part of himself that John fears he could be or the part he keeps restrained. So yes, in a way, he is Eurus, just like Sherlock is Moriarty.
