       He’s in the village gathering information, as risky as it is these days.  He is Orochimaru and slipping in past patrols and blending in as a civilian is not a difficult task.  Sticking to the seedier parts of town, a scuffle breaks out practically on top of him.  Drunkards corner a child and start heckling the damned thing -- more than heckling.  This is an inconvenience.  Now he’s been caught up in this nonsense -- 

       And then the child starts biting and pulls out a knife and Orochimaru just stands out of the way, watching this and pointedly not looking involved.  The child’s eyes change and Orochimaru almost can’t keep the alarm off his face.  Suddenly things make sense.  The whisker marks on the child’s face, the golden hair -- the Uzumaki spiral wouldn’t be strange but not many children wear it.

      This is Namikaze’s kid.  The Jinchuuriki.

       The kid turns to him.

        Orochimaru wonders if the ANBU are watching or if they’ve turned a blind eye to the scuffle.  He’s willing to take an impulsive risk and assume the latter.  “I see they all hate you quite a bit.  They hated me, too.”
