The year is closing, and after the fateful Episode 1 Release, preparatory work begins for episode 2! I'm finally starting to do some much needed concept art, character turnovers and texture packs to facilitate my work moving forward... and this involves preparing the ground for newcoming characters in episode 2!
And therefore...
Meet Saeruk!
Saeruk is one of the main Gerudo characters in Thralls of Power. She is a ranger, self-reliant, observant, always worried. She is about Ganondorf's age, and watched him turn from boy to man, from a kid to a king. Their relationship is layered, profound resentment and infuriating admiration regularly at war in her mind. All Saeruk wants is for the Gerudo to stand united, safe, and free.
And she will not leave any of them behind.
I have a lot of fondness for her, her arc is one of my favorites in the story, and I really hope you'll like her just as much once she's properly introduced in Episode 2!!
🥺🥺🥺 a friend of mine drew Saeruk (a very important Thralls gerudo OC, basically THE point of view character from the gerudo side of things if you exclude Ganondorf) for my birthday, she looks so coooool this was so kind aaaa 💖💖💖
He's on instagram and he does very intricate French webcomics and his art is super cool and 🥺🥺🥺
Work may or may not have (slowly but surely) resumed....
hgnmnnnggmgnn I wish I had room to fit in all the complicated nuances of Saeruk and Ganondorf's relationship in Thralls, but I really don't......

🧭 What was the key choice or decision you had to make for Unhallowed Vespers? If you had chosen differently, what would the story have turned into?

Ohh interesting!
Mhhhh, well, I don't know that there is a single decision that I took that really shaped the story that wouldn't simply fall in my regular thematic decisions (and I can't really imagine what changing that would do, except for creating a completely different story I wouldn't have written haha). I suppose the splattered timeline of Descant's chapters was perhaps one of the most "high impact" decisions in term of presentation. It was one of those decisions that I took without quite understanding why at the time, it just "felt right" when I started and I decided to trust that instinct, hoping its purpose would become clear later. And it did! At least I think/hope it did. I think Ganondorf's character exploration benefits from a jumbled temporality, as it makes the tension point of the story less plot-driven and more driven by what has shaped his decisions, why it was impossible to avoid, and why the consequences were always going to shape up in such a cosmic way --and this was an attempt to center the tragedy around his fight for absolute agency, and the way trying to fight for control was actually bound to set him down an inescapable path. Also: he did fuck up the whole concept of Time forever by breaking the Triforce! And, to a certain extent, there's this sense of this possibly being a semi-hidden reminescing point of view, from beyond the reaches of what a normal human would understand of Time, and a look back at himself trying to puzzle out how did it come to this, and how to make some kind of peace with the decisions he took and where it led him.
Funnily enough, I think a story that wouldn't have done that... would be Thralls. Which I'm also doing! Granted, it's not at all the same set of events, even if some of the elements between those two stories are very similar, but in Thralls the tension is far more plot-driven, even if informed by character arcs and a sense of inevitability still (we all know where this is going, and it's fucking great because it does SO MUCH for the tension and I don't have to do a thing and it's a very convenient element to play with!!!).
Tbh there's a lot of worldbuilding and character elements related to Ganondorf's upbringing that I have also changed for Thralls, because those are two very different mediums that use different "emotional pallets" to express themselves. While some rough elements/characters are present in both stories, I have decided to streamline a lot of things for Thralls. ...
(preface to what is hidden below: I'm sorry I just... I just went full Behind The Scene mode, this ask just became a whole fucking novel that I'm not sure you were asking for, but thank you for the opportunity to yap!! this was fun!! also sorry, also mild-to-mid spoilers for Thralls and Vespers underneath u_u)
For example! Things that have changed are (I'm going to write this like a day 1 patch fix because it amuses me):
hmmm she's lowkey stealing totk ganondorf's look isn't she...
Ok!!! I think I have a first attempt for one of my gerudo oc' musical theme for Thralls. It was a bit daunting, and I'm not sure whether it's fully there, but it's something!!
