As you all know, there are certain "topics" or "themes" that you can use as jumping off points for puns.

For example: someone gets on the topic of trees, and you can work with words like leaf, bark, pine, sap, etc.

Two topics that can be downright abusable if you know enough vocabulary surrounding them are horses and math. 

Sure they have nothing really to do with each other, but what if I told you that with one esoteric math term, you could construct a bridge between the two and unleash an onslaught of puns that will leave all bystanders aghast?

Well that, my friend, is called a saddle point. 

Without going too far down the math rabbit hole, a saddle point is a fixed point on a three dimensional graph that is a critical point (a point at which a graph's derivative equals zero), but not a local extrema. 

Now the next time you find yourself in a pun-off involving either mathematic or equestrian terminology, you can tap into a whole reservoir of tangentially related puns and completely leave your opponent on the back foot.
