“Would you please hold still?” Caretaker was almost at their snapping point with Whumpee, having to mentally count to ten to avoid doing anything stupid.

“It’s my fucking luck to get stuck with an uncaring asshole like you, isn’t it? Nothing else has been good for me, so why would you be different.”

This wasn’t the first thing Whumpee had said like this. As soon as Caretaker had brought them back, it had been non-stop barrage of insults and complaints about them, and everything they did to try to help.

“I’m sorry you feel that way.” Caretaker muttered, damn near through gritted teeth. “Now hold still so I can finish rewrapping your arm.”

Apparently, Whumpee had enough. “You know what?” They growled, jumping from the toilet cover. “I didn’t fucking asked to be saved! You just took it along yourself to try and play hero-“

Caretaker bit their toungue, trying to keep their calm, but Whumpee wasn’t getting the hint that they were getting sick of it.

“So now you’re here, trying to fix a little broken person, do you feel good?” Their tone had become mocking and childish. “I didn’t need you to save me, so-“

They couldn’t. They fucking couldn’t deal with this shit. They were yelling before they even realized it. “Maybe you should’ve fucking told me that before I decided to chose you over Whumpee B!”

Whumpee stopped moving, shocked at the sudden outburst. “What?”

“Whumper hurt Whumpee B, who you’d never met before. They were gravely injured, but with medical treatment, they could possibly survive. You, on the other hand.”

Venom interlaced their words, “-Were cut up and bruised, but more then able to take a fucking hit. You weren’t going to die for a very long time at the rate Whumper was going!”

Whumpee listened, mouth hanging open at the hostility coming from Caretaker.

“Yes! I saw you, and you were in for a lot more shit Whumpee! But Whumper, the ever so kind person they are, gave me a choice,” they let out a involuntary chuckle, a little bubble of hysteria being released as tears streamed down their face.

“I could save my Whumpee B, but turn my back on everything Whumper had planned for you, or I could let them kill-“ their voice cracked, and they had to look away from Whumpee momentarily. “And they would let you go.”

Whumpee’s eyes were wide, shock running through their features. “You- you chose me?”

Caretaker wiped away the warm tears, still feeling the anger nipping at them. “I sacrificed my baby’s life to save you, and you’re sitting here, acting like selfish fucking child.”

“I-“

I haven’t done one of these in a while. After having a pretty deep Ignition chat with @unlimitedhappylife last night, I thought it might be fun to share some insight.

One thing, if you read with a magnifying glass, you’ll notice in Ignition is that it has layers. Layers on layers on layers.  I also love playing with parallels. One of my favorite examples is the dynamic between Steve and Darcy. Prepare for a long post below of an author’s ramblings.

when Jason talks about why the story went along the line it did he says he want to do things around sacrifice, having Clarke sacrificing Bellamy for Madi. problem is for it to actually be about sacrifice something has to be lost and Clarke didn’t really lose anything.

first you’d probably say she lost Bellamy because after all he was the one she “sacrificed” but arguably she had already lost Bellamy. multiple characters said before and after his death they had already lost Bellamy so in terms of what has been said on the show she didn’t really kill Bellamy, so there no real sacrifice there.

second you might say her friends, things changed with her friends. but they didn’t really there was an argument with Madi but that was it both Octavia and Echo forgave her after a minute flat, like I said there was a lot of talk of already losing Bellamy so again no real lose.

even within Clarke her self there doesn’t seem to be any indication she lost anything internally the way she’s talking it doesn’t seem like she thing she did anything wrong. to be honest when it really comes down to it I think she sees it as Bellamy’s fault she killed him.

now we have two episodes left so some of these things could change, maybe someone will confront Clarke are maybe she will really think about what she did but my point is there’s no sacrifice here. Jason claims he wanted to do a storyline around sacrifice but as things stand right now there’s no really follow through on that. there very easily could be, if someone confronts Clarke about it and there is a real conversation that plot point could be paid off but we have yet to see that.
