It's Bandcamp Friday...
...this time, I picked up the new Hoaxed album, Death Knocks, which is an awesome heavy rock album I've had on repeat lately -
I also grabbed the second album Ada Rook put out last year, 59 Nights - it's more a collection of songs recorded over the last 4 years, including some Kittie and Children of Bodom covers. Maybe a little less accessible/more of an acquired taste, but there are some bangers in there ;)
I also picked up a couple of EPs by French anarchist musical collective Non-Serviam, that they'd put up as pay-what-you-want, including their split EP with Gallkrist (Japanese black metal musician Vivien Slaughter) - I still remember the summer I listened to a lot of Gallhammer (Vivien's previous band, an almost unintelligable all-girl Hellhammer tribute) and how much that messed up my app's musical recommendations for years afterwards...
Finally, political hip-hop artist Sa-Roc has put a lot of her earlier albums out for pay-what-you-want (which includes free!). Her 2020 album The Sharecropper's Daughter was really good, so I'm looking forward to exploring some of her earlier work!

i don't wanna hear any complaints about female rappers 'always speaking about one topic' if you make no effort to listen to Sampa The Great, Sa-Roc, or OSHUN. You can always find what you seek but you're so determined to shut down and categorize black women before giving them a chance you're missing out on great music. And remember ALL these women that express the different aspects of life and sexuality and sensuality through their own personal lens of their world deserve respect. Rappers focused on consciousness are not better than those that speak on their experiences. "You know better so you did better, I'm a real bitch and my pussy wetter." holds just as much signification to me as 'strictly spiritual' music. Everything black women do is otherworldly and something to listen to and acknowledge
This came out so cool! This is “Forever” by Sa-Roc as I see it because of synesthesia!
