in the rewrite: Lucas helps El train. teaches her how to work out. it helps her feel like sheâs making progress. if she gets strong enough, Hop will let her go into the Upside Down, and once she's in the Upside Down she can kill Vecna and save Max. so she just has to get strong as fast as possible, and ignore the way Hop grumbles at her. she also likes how⊠physical it is. she is strong in her body, like she is in her mind. training also helps Lucas feel useful. heâs helping El, and through helping El heâs helping Max. it also just gives him something to do, keeps him out of his head. being on the basketball team would be dangerous, now, and the one time they tried to play D&D together after the earthquake went⊠poorly. he teaches her how to play basketball, too, and it turns out that sheâs kind of a fucking beast on the court, even when sheâs not cheating with her powers. aggressive as hell and litigious about scores. it makes his heart beat in a way he tries not to think about
(Max wakes up from a coma all muscle atrophied, and her boyfriend and the girl she doesnât realize she has a massive crush on are both buff as fuck and strong enough to carry her princess-style. sheâs going to have a fucking heart attack and die for a second time)

Iâm gonna start posting some art thatâs involved with my s5 rewrite soon and Iâm kicking it off with some bychance!(b4 the horrors happen to Will)
Chance thinks something's really wrong with Hawkins. At first he wanted to believe Jason, because Jason's logic is reassuring and simple enough to follow, and Jason knows how to be convincing, but as everything starts to escalate there's a dissonance inside him he can no longer ignore. Too much contradictions and too much things that don't make sense, even if others insist they're in the right. Besides, Chance has never trusted authority figures and there's definitely something fishy with the military.
So, Chance decides to investigate on his own without telling the other jocks, because they wouldn't understand, or worst, they might think he's a traitor like Lucas.
He sneaks out at night and spies on the military, taking notes of their activities, slowly realizing that earthquake isn't normal and might not be an earthquake at all. He puts a radio-transmitting bug (he made a ham radio himself, so it's faulty and limited in range but it's better than nothing) inside one of the soldiers's tanks while he is working at his dad's repair shop.
There are a lot of interferences, but he still picks up a few weird words, like "dimension", "find the girl", "toxic air", "two soldiers attacked by...creatures"
Creatures? What the hell?
But as Chance tries to uncover the truth, he runs into Will, who's also investigating his own visions without telling his friends (Will's dealing with some weird sleepwalking, waking up outside in the middle of the woods with no memory of getting there, and he doesn't really want to freak out his mom or his friends more than they already are).
At first wary of each other, they start a strange friendship and meet up at nightâthe first few times by chance, then by choice. Will knows Demogorgons are roaming Hawkins (a few people have gone missing already) and doesn't want Chance to put himself in danger, so he decides to share what he knows with Chance in order to make him understand what he's getting himself into.
Even if he's a bit overwhelmed at first, Chance never once believes Will is lying to him. On the contrary, he is finally able to put the pieces of puzzle together and gets to know who's truly responsible for the death of his friends. Now, he's determined helping Will to stop Vecna more than ever.
As they grow closer, Chance tries not to think too much why he wants to see Will again so eagerly, why Will's existence feels holier than the God he was taught to worship, or why he doesn't give a single fuck whether Will's the Antichrist or not.
Will tries not to think why Chance's presence soothes something inside him, why he falls asleep so easily when Chance is around, or why the idea of Chance getting hurt breaks his heart into pieces.
(Then the whole MAC-Z fight happens, Chance nearly gets torn apart by a Demogorgon, then witnesses Will using his powers for the first time and is left in awe, but he's also not surprised because it's Will we're talking about, of course his angel is badass.)

Release The Bats(Chapter VI: What A Guy, Makes You Cry)
warnings: grief, reader is awakened from her unconscious state that happened back in chapter two, time skips, blood mentions, violence, vampirism, a mess of emotions
word count: 2.1k
summary: Dustin is so sure he's chasing Eddie Munson, who has now become a monster. Steve tries to comfort you, but you're so lost in your grief, you're sure you're losing your mind. and we get to have a taste of two different phone calls to Ronnie Ecker.
a/n: really sorry for not updating sooner, I've been fixated on different things but I'm DYING to get back to this series and complete it!!!
Ronnie Ecker sits stunned. One of her best friends is calling her on the phone in the middle of the night. Thereâs this silence that seems to follow after youâve said Eddieâs name. Ronnie knows that Edward Munson is deceased and has been for a while now.
âBabe, youâre just going through grief right now. Itâs okay.â
âRonnie please! Itâs EDDIE! HeâsâŠoh god, Ronnie heâs fucking hereâŠthereâs blood all over himâŠI-IâŠâ
Ronnie can hear odd sounds coming from the other line. Thereâs a snarling sound that doesnât seem to stop. It seems to be getting closer to the receiver on the other end. Her heart is pounding in her chest.
âHey, whatâs going on? Are you okay?â
âHEâS HERE! RONNIE, EDDIE IS HERE!â
The line goes dead and Ronnie Ecker is left with more questions than previous. She tries to redial the number of her best friend, but the line is busy. Thereâs something about this that doesnât sit right with Ronnie at all. She immediately begins to pack a bag, and she heads to the airport that night to make her way back to Hawkins.
It was Steve Harrington who found you passed out on your living room floor. He had you in his lap, tapping your cheek lightly and calling your name. When you finally came to, you could see tears in his eyes.
âJesus,â he sniffles. âThought I fuckinâ lost you there for a minute.â
You hug him, squeezing him tight. âSomething weird is going on, Steve.â
You remember the apparition you had seen just hours ago. The same one that came after the haunting dream of Eddie. What did this all mean? Were you finally just succumbing to the grief and guilt of losing your soulmate or was this a sick joke someone was playing on you?
And you began to wonder if maybe the noxious gasses in the air were finally getting to you. You wonder if maybe it was time to get the van packed and head the fuck out of Hawkins. You knew it was risky, but what else could you do.
âHey, heyâŠâ Steve tapped your cheek once more. âYou there? You with me?â
You nod and finally dry your eyes. âSorry, Steve. Iâve just been soââ
âYou donât have to say it. Youâre okay.â
He helps you sit on the couch and you light a cigarette. Your hands are shaking. Steve wraps a blanket around your shoulders and he heads into the kitchen to grab you something to drink. He returns with a Gatorade and some Poptarts.
He smiles sheepishly as he hands them to you. âSorry, I know itâs not much right now, but you need to eat.â
You return the smile and begin nibbling on the toaster pastry. Itâs cold, but somehow itâs comforting. You realize that itâs Eddieâs favourite. You had them stocked up here just for him. Nobody else liked this type except for you and him. Something about this makes your heart squeeze in your chest.
The memories of him flash in your mind. Youâve been trying for months now to let it go. Youâve done everything you could to shake it all off like droplets of water from a swim in the lake. But it clung to you like a second skin. The guilt ate into you, like worms in a rotted apple core. You felt like you were just floating through life. After everything thatâs happened in those months that passed since you lost your lover, you really didnât know what to do with yourself.
And you wondered if maybe this was the grief finally catching up to you.
âYou going to be alright?â Steve asks, sitting closer.
âI donât know,â you reply.
He brings you closer, wrapping his arms around you. He knows that he needs to be here for you, but heâs not exactly sure how to truly do that. You had been in love with Eddie for so long, and even he knew that.
Despite being a giant douchebag and asshole to most people in high school, you and Steve still had some semblance of friendship once he got his head out of his ass. You two stuck together whenever trouble reared its ugly head. And it was you and Steve who always fought side by side whenever times were tough.Â
But it was Eddie that you loved. It was Eddie that you admired. It was Eddie you needed right now, and Steve was cursing himself for not being the D&D playing metalhead. He wished he could just call the guy and get him to come over, but he was six feet under that ground.
âListen to me,â Steve finally spoke up. âIf you need anything, and I mean anything, be it day or night, you come to me. Okay?â
You wipe your eyes and nod. âOkay.â
He pushes some hair back from your face. âI mean it.â
You nod once more and settle into cuddling against his chest. He smells really good. Heâs wearing that same cologne heâs been wearing since the tenth grade. Thereâs something so soothing about this scent. Itâs musky and spicy.
âYouâve been wearing that same cologne since tenth grade,â you comment softly.
Steve laughs. âIt works, doesnât it?â
You both burst out laughing. Steve hasnât really been on a solid date in a long time, and of course he was still somewhat crushing on Nancy. He knew that he couldnât be with her, but his feelings still lingered at times. She was pretty happy with Jonathan, but it didnât mean that Steve was just going to easily forget what he felt for her.
He begins to play with your hair, lulling you into a peaceful slumber. The birds are singing outside, or so you believe them to be. It almost feels like a picture perfect fall morning. As you try to fight off the slow descent into slumber, you hear the crackling of your walkie-talkie. On the other end was a very distressed Dustin Henderson. And you make out the words â....flyingâŠnear myâŠwindowâŠEddie?!â
He had spent the night chasing after the winged-creature. It was like it was taunting him. Dustin Henderson wondered if he also was being haunted by guilt and grief. He should have done more to save Eddie. He didnât want his friend to die in his arms.
The visions of that night still play in his mind. The way Eddie struggled to speak. The words he had said, telling him to take care of the newer players of D&D and the members of Hellfire. And the way he struggled to tell you that he loved you. Dustin could never quite get any of that out of his mind.
And now, on his bike, chasing after this monster, he was wondering if maybe you and him had been wrong about Eddie. Had he really died in the Upside Down? Or was this actually the metalhead in question?
âEddie?!â Dustin calls out, and the monster seems to respond somewhat to this.
The winged-creature keeps turning around to make sure that Dustin is following. Itâs leading him somewhere, but Dustin doesnât seem to really understand where itâs leading him to. They pass by all kinds of places in Hawkins, and despite Dustinâs loud cries, there doesnât seem to be anyone else up at this hour.
His legs burn as he peddles faster and faster. Before long, he needs to stop. Dustin tries to catch his breath. He thanks himself for grabbing his spare walkie-talkie and tries to get a hold of you. Thereâs nothing but radio silence.
Then he begins to bike again, but the monster seems to have hidden away. He curses himself for losing the sight of this monster. This monster that has big curly hair like Eddie. This monster that seems to almost recognize the fact that Dustin is calling out Eddieâs name.
Was this some sort of mirage? A hallucination?Â
He was sure that by now his mother was gathering the help of either the local police or some neighbors to come after him. He settles down on a park bench and thinks about what heâll do next. There was no way that creature was a hallucination.
He had followed it for a long while. He saw it clear as day in front of him. Dustin knew he wasnât just seeing things. That creature existed, whether or not it was Eddie Munson. It was a real thing and he was going to get to the bottom of things.
âShitâŠshit shit shitâŠâ
Dustin was cursing himself for not being able to get ahold of you. Would this completely freak you out? Yes! But youâd also be the perfect person to confirm if this monster was Eddie Munson or not. He thought about asking some of the members of the Hellfire Club, but most of them tried to distance themselves from Dustin and the group itself to retain their innocence since Eddie had still been wanted for murder.
He tries the walkie again, but thereâs no answer. Then he tries to get ahold of someone at the radio station. To his luck, Robin answers.
âThis is Rockinâ Robin, whatâs up?â
âRobin, itâs Dustin. Is Steve there or isâŠâ
âNegatory. Itâs just me tonight. Neither one of them showed up for their shiftâŠcan you believe the nerve of some people? I swear, Iâd be better at disciplining them butââ
âRobin, this is important. Can you get ahold of her or Steve for me? Something weird is going on.â
Robin pauzes for a moment before coming back on the line. âSheâs not picking up. Itâs pretty late there, kiddoâŠâ
âRobin, please! This is serious!â
She can hear the tone of his voice. âAlright, let me try King Steve.â
Thereâs a few moments of silence before Robin returns with a reply. âSteve is going to go check on her. He said she was acting weird lately and he was worried that you couldnât contact her.â
âOh okayâŠcan you get either one of them to reach me on the walkie?â
âYou got it. Thatâs a big ten-four.â
Dustin feels a bit more relieved now. He makes his way home, biking a little slower than before. But right before he turns on his street, that creature seems to be waiting for him. Itâs perched on the highest bough of a tree, its eyes glowing red. It almost seems to be beckoning him closer.
Before he can think straight, Dustin skids and turns around. He begins to bike towards your place. There was no way he would be getting close to that creature without someone else confirming that it was real and not actually a hallucination.
You hiccup softly. âOh RonnieâŠoh god, itâs so good to hear your voice.â
âWhatâs the matter?â she asks, fearing the worst.
âItâsâŠfuckâŠoh godâŠâ you begin to sob again. It was hard for you to make this phone call. You hadnât wanted to make it in the first place, but the rest of the Hellfire Club said you should be the one to tell Ronnie.
âAre you okay? I heard about the earthquakes in Hawkins! My granny called me just the other day, but I havenât heard from anyone else.â
You sniffle and try to calm your breathing. âRonnie, EddieâŠEddieâsâŠfuckâEddieâs dead.â
The line goes silent for a long while. So silent, you could hear a pin drop. Ronnieâs heart pounds in her chest.
âWhatâŠwhat do you mean?â she asks in complete shock.
âEddieâs fuckinâ dead. He fuckinâ died. I donât know what to do, Ron. Iâm fucking scared.â
She swallows hard on the other end. You can hear it. Itâs grief thatâs coming to eat you both up. Itâs the sensation of losing someone so close to either one of you that seems to be bringing you both together. Yet youâre both completely apart from one another.
âH-howâŠwas itâŠâ
âThe earthquakes.â You lie softly, but you know youâll explain it to her better next time. âOh god, so many people diedâŠâ
You hiccup again and Ronnie can hear the absolute heartbreak in your voice. Sheâs distraught right now, and you sound like youâre about to have a meltdown.
âGonna have a funeral for himâŠbut thereâs no bodyâŠcouldnât get it from the wreckage.â
Something about this doesnât sit right with Ronnie, but she doesnât question it.
âI wish I could be there.â She finally replies.

The Pietà  by grapejuiceblues28 (7/10 | 23,659 | Teen and Up)
Mike has been in love with Will for a very long time but hasn't quite come to terms with it yet. That is, until Will saves his life, Lucas nudges him in the right direction and Robin laughs in his face. Once he makes a mixtape, though, all hell breaks looseâfrom him realizing his feelings for Will to the world ending. If Mike had to choose which is worse, he wouldnât...he'd argue itâs an even split.

Or a rewrite of season five with a whole lot of Byler fluff, told Mike's jealous, lovestruck POV. This is all canon to me personally.
