I don’t get why people are so mad about the last episode of Titans, especially critics. For me it was pretty clear that Trigon wanted to co-opt Dick Grayson to whatever shady scam he has going. 

This is my theory: his wife was probably in contact with him and she told him what a big part of his daughter’s life Dick Grayson was. So in order to get her to cooperate, he needed to get to Grayson. Knowing that he wasn’t going to get Dick’s cooperation so easily, Trigon used his little trick of ilusion to turn Dick to the dark side. 

But this is my theory. Let’s go with the facts:

We don’t know how was Dick’s entrance into the house. We saw him going past the force field and then we were right into his dream/illusion. What we do know was that it was a journey into Dick’s darkest parts of himself. It was a fabricated illusion to turn him into whatever Tigon needed him to be. 

We should notice that whenever Dick said he was going home, suddenly someone would appear with some kind of disaster for him to handle. So, instead of going to the perfect life he had, he stayed to help Gotham.

It made sense - at least to me - that Dick’s nightmare/illusion would focus on Batman. The two had a falling out. Dick has a lot of unfinished business with his mentor. There is hurt, angst, grudge, all of this negative feelings towards Bruce/Batman that he has kept inside himself and never handled it properly. He just ran away to another city. He had so much bottled up inside himself that all of it manifested in this fabricated world created by Trigon. Dick ran away because he thought Bruce as Batman was crossing a line and Dick wanted to preserve whats little humanity was left inside himself. He didn’t want to turn into Bruce, but as the episodes went on, we saw how violent and out of control Dick could be. The final step of this crazy journey was for him to kill someone so important to him in that cold manner. 

And like that, Trigon created a soldier for him, an ally close to his daughter.

There is also this theory that in order for you to grow and become yourself, you need to kill the parental figure in your life - metaphorically speaking. But I don’t know if that was the writers intention. And that is also... well, a theory.

The rest? There is a second season. We are going to see how Rachel deals with this changed Dick, how Donna and Kory will save the day and how Hank and Dawn figure in all of this. We just need to be patient.
