A reflection about TD romanticism and in particular about RidonculousRace
In these days, I rewatched both TD:RidonculousRace and TD:Action I'm not even surprised at noticing how bad is FreshTV at handling Romantic Relationships between their characters In TD logic, if a character is popular and went far in the previous season, to justify their elimination, they make that character so unlikeable at the point that their behaviour becomes unrecognizable/totally OutOfCharacter. And this happens so often is TDA and in TDWT ("let's makes characters who used to be sweet and softies, totally toxic and jealous and/or traitorous for litterally no reasons. What a wonderfull idea to make romantic relationships that otherwise won't fit at all!"/s) But I will talk about this later... Let's focusing on some couple handling in RR: Watching at this age the BestFriends team, I already noticed how their development is pretty clichè, but not all the clichè are bad by default... The problem with the best friends is that their development feel forced and rush during most of the season: Carrie has a crush on Devin and she doesn't even try to hide it. Devin is already an idiot since he can't understand this, but Carrie, knowing he has a girlfriend, instead trying to move one, since her feelings were never returned since she was a kid, she thinks about confessing to Devin... while he is still with Shelly. And later, when Devin break up with Shelly, and Carrie had finally gave up on him, he realizes he loves Carrie back and starts to do everything to be noticed (aka, the classic toxic masculinity) Sure, they shares a lot of moments where they cares about each other (as friends) so... wouldn't be a better idea that the team stays like this? But I think the worse are definitely Stephanie and Ryan... Obviously it's all Stephanie's fault this time. She is so incredible toxic, aggressive and ab*sive and never showed once to actually care about the poor Ryan, even with all the efforts he made for her. The huge problem with this couple is, that: if Stephanie would have ended up as a villain or breaking up with Ryan in the end, would have been so much better and fitting with her character. But no! Let's make this couple loving themselves again in the end. What a wonderfull and absolutely not harmfull idea/s I get their idea was about "being a couple means sometimes you will end up arguing with your loved one", but Stephanie's bahaviour has gone too far The excellent idea for me would have been that at somepoint Carrie definitely gives up on Deving respecting his feelings for Shelly and that Ryan notice what kind of person is actually Stephanie and breakup with her
Since they end up being friends and helping eachother in the canon, Carrie and Ryan both tries to help eachother and in the end they ends up as a couple
What do you think about this guys?
