A SOLDIER'S LETTER

Dear Marie Rose,

It has been already a long time since I joined the troops of the civil war and I miss you a lot. I hope that the situation in Ireland is better than the one here. Most of my friends from the squad died last monday because of the bombings. I felt alone once I discovered that all my mates were dead or, at least, seriously injured. I was the only one who could movev and I had tot ake the injured mates to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. I was tired but I had to save them. The doctors saved everyone except Sean, our neighbour. His mother will be very sad.

When I returned to the main quarter, the general gave me a medal in appreciation for saving my battalion. Then, they assigned me to a new squad and they called me a real hero. However, I have good news for you; I have days off for some holidays an I'll be taking a flight next weekend in order to visit you and our son Tommy. I'm so excited to see you again.
