Slugcat food for hungry critters
Or, things that make me feel better when I'm species dysphoric, and may also help you. Sorted alphabetically and by diet, with prioritisation for more 'niche' concepts you may not have considered (e.g a carnivorous slugcat eating meat is.. obvious, y'know?).
I designed this to be as close as or reminiscent to wild meals as possible, you could say.
Carnivorous
Beef shredded - This is not what batflies would taste like. This is what my heart insists batflies would taste like.
Bugs - If you can afford them, crickets and mealworms are common options. Worms are also eaten in many cultures! Crunchy and meaty.
Jellyfish - Do your part for the ecosystem; these fellers are actually turning into a huge problem. Watery, bland, but as you'd expect salty. Commonly eaten with soy sauce, in soup or just as dried strips.
Sardines - cheap, incredibly filling, has that nice crunch from the edible bones. I eat these straight from the tin when there's nothing else to scratch that aquatic scug food instinct. Tuna is also great. Cod is a low mercury option.
Herbivorous
Blueberries - I buy these when they're reduced price and then cache them in my current shelter via fridge freezing. Unpredictable taste and texture is either a boon or a repellent depending on your preferences.
Blue cheese - just kind of fulfils the urge to eat mold, both slime mold and gooieducks. Commonly sharp and tangy, but many types. Experiment!
Basil and Chia seeds - Actually my mate's idea! When you hydrate them, they get a squishy outer membrane like bubblefruit has. I like to drink basil seed drinks, of which there are both dairy and fruit varieties. :)
Corn on the cob - Add whatever you think would make it delicious. I like soy sauce and garlic on mine.
Pomegranates - ..Like a pomegranate. Sweet and tart.
Seaweed - Salty, crunchy when dried and again very variable. I'm planning to harvest spiral wrack off the beach soon, a common species here which reminds me of glow weed and I'm told has an olive-like taste.
Feel free to reblog with additions, I am planning to make this an entire 'series' of resources and would appreciate more ideas to add to the posts; I'm aware the carnivorous section in particular is lacking, I am not a carnivorous slug outside my fish consumption so I don't have any experience to pull from.
