First of all, this ask actually killed me. I'm a ghost now.

Second of all, I literally cannot possibly tell you how much I love Thirteen and how incredibly well Chris Chibnall is crafting this show. Those are two very different points, so, instead of doing my homework, I'm going to elaborate.

Jodie Whittaker is absolutely phenomenal. In the criticisms I've seen of her as the Doctor, the criticizer was only looking at the superficial elements of her character, which is... just... no. There is an exuberance on the surface that significantly characterizes her Doctor but the complexities beneath are what make her so fascinating: all the anger, and the fear, and the rage that we'd expect to see are really carefully compressed and I daresay that, in my own personal opinion, Thirteen is the most emotionally interesting and complex Doctor since Nine. Whittaker pulls these subtleties off masterfully and I find myself seeing nuances upon rewatches that I never noticed before, yet if you don't have the EQ of a dung beetle there's a lot of complexities that you can see just on a first watch, making it a continuously interesting experience.

Chris Chibnall has turned the show from the stale, superficial, repetetive, and shallow writing that preceded it (don't @ me I'm not interested in a debate I know there are a lot of redeeming qualities of the previous era, or so some folks insist) into something that's fun and energetic and very much the classic flavor all of Doctor Who shares but still has an undercurrent of the sort of sad, twisting beauty that Torchwood had. The companions are all very different from each other and are well developed characters, even if they maybe haven't seen very much growth yet.

In case you also haven't been keeping tabs on the fandom, which I'm assuming from this ask that you're not, a lot of folks who are very invested in Classic Who, the EU (i.e. the EDAs or BF dramas), or who stopped watching like both of us did over the past few years are now returning to the show not just with some mild curiosity, but with exuberance and are becoming invested again.

TL;DR, Chibnall is steering into some REALLY heavy hitting plotlines that are actually consequential, and I finally have hope that we're not going to have another era where the consequences are made up and the plots don't matter. Whittaker is doing some excellent work here and especially in the past few episodes we are starting to see Thirteen's very mercurial nature that up until now she's kept so carefully hidden-- she's coming into her own as the Doctor and we're starting to see the dark side of that (it's Chibnall's show now; did any of us think this was going to be sunshine and rainbows? If so please cf. literally all of Torchwood and Broadchurch).

Also, if Jodie Whittaker isn't enough (which she sure as fuck is because when I say she's doing an incredible job, I mean incredible), Sacha Dhawan was an absolute delight and I can't wait for him to come back.

This actually just made me very happy, and I'm glad that you were able to figure it out, because I know it sure drives me crazy when things like that happen!!! This is both a shameless plug for the season and also just a factual statement: Sacha Dhawan was SO good in DW this year. I've never cared about the Master don't @ me but I loved the way he played the character and I felt that his arc was actually both narratively satisfying (until the last second, but that's because Plot™) and made a lot of sense given the Master's backstory.

But anyway, I'm glad you shared.

(On another note, I could not find any suitable Quirrel gifs, so I selected this one instead which basically sums up the first and foremost question the Doctor wanted to ask the Master all season.)
