VIDE /20
This is a review and a rant. I've seen this movie twice now, once in theatres and just right now and i think it's really stupid that this film got negative reviews because of scarjo playing the major. Most of the reviews I've seen that shit can this film make it seem as if they watched an entirely different film. We live in an era where the studios are making remake after remake and taking existing properties and turning them into huge budgeted films. Now GITS is one of if not my most beloved anime of all time, just behind cowboy bebop. This film did not deserve the shit it got slinged at it. This is an American adaptation and although there are some minor flaws I think it can stand alongside the original. The original was about what does it mean to be human, this film is about how technology is corrupting us and we DONT EVEN SEE IT. I respect Rupert Sanders for taking this on and switching the theme and making it relevant to the world we currently live in. I mean the cinematography alone is astounding. Would I have wished they incorporated some of my other favorite characters more, sure. But what Sanders did with this film is something I find super important and taking a stand to say something I think everyone desperately wants to say too. I think this will eventually become a cult classic and an under appreciated film. Just because a critic tells you something, doesn't mean you should listen. Make your own judgement, and ACTUALLY WATCH the movie. #ghostintheshell #anime #rupertsanders #film #neonoir #ilovethismovie (at Tokyo æ±äșŹé”ćĄ)

Today at http://psychodrivein.com Ghost in the Shell (2017) If youâre a fan of the original Ghost in the Shell, you might be depressed from what the live-action Hollywood adaptation does to its noteworthy source material. If youâve never seen the anime, then you might find some scraps of entertainment to be had in what is essentially a drizzly cyberpunk product dumbed down for the largest mass audience that would be adrift with any minor hint of ambiguity. --- Read more of Nate's review at the link in our profile! #ghostintheshell #gits #scarlettjohansson #rupertsanders
GHOST IN THE SHELL review by S.Oatney âÂ
Have you read the original manga series? Have you watched the original anime series? Does this Hollywood-ized live-action film version live up to either?
Director Rupert Sandersâ newest iteration of the Japanese media franchise pays plenty of homage, and in many ways lives up, to its predecessors. However, there is something âlost in translationâ (pun intended, referencing ScarJoâs 2003 film with Bill Murray, set in Japan). Still, a pretty solid sci-fi story filled with plenty of stunning visual cityscapes and abundant fantastic futuristic eye-candies. The special effects are top notch, including its computer-graphics content. Same goes for itâs art-direction, set-design, costume-design, stunt-work, camera-work, and sound-design - all on point.
It is most certainly not news that Scarlett Johansson is Hollywoodâs It-girl for A-list science-fiction action badassery, and rightly so. Ever since her introduction to the Marvel cinematic universe in âIron Man 2âČ (2010) as Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), she has been a veritable freight train of kick-assedness. However, this reviewer would argue that her first toe dipped into the pool of sci-fi tough-gal roles was in âThe Islandâ in 2005, a film with a brilliant concept that could have been so much more. I wonât mention her other role in a comic-adaptation, as Silken Floss in 2008âČs âThe Spirit.â Oh, whoops.
GitS has some challenges with pacing, clichĂ© plot elements, and it feels derivative of âBlade Runnerâ and such sci-fi films, but all in all I must say that I enjoyed it and would recommend it to fans of the foreign franchise and newbies, as well.Â
