6/19 - Mountain after mountain
Love the contrast between the pessimistic, frustrated verses and the soaring choruses on “Hear Comes My Girl.” Petty knew something about how it feels to meet your significant other.
“There are mountains after mountains” is a Korean proverb. It means that there’s always, well, another mountain to climb. Every day brings its own difficulties. Some days come easier than others. Today started easy, but it quickly grew difficult. Things I thought I would work well in class didn’t, so I had to regroup and change direction. I think tomorrow will go better.
Rumspringer’s 10″ album. I saw them in a basement in Milwaukee nearly a decade ago. I don’t remember the concert, but must’ve liked them enough to buy their record. And I’m glad I did, because these lyrics helped me get through some tough times:
“I don’t mind the way we stand because we’re all in this together
It’s a little offbeat and out of tune and it may not be forever,
But if I can survive and create something I’m proud of,
Then I’ll wade through the shit we stand in, no matter how consequential”
--“Spring Breakdown.”
It’s Melodic punk rock with a sludgier-than-usual rhythm guitar and a chiming 2nd guitar.
@soulmusicsongs: Thanks for posting “Peace Is Gonna Come.” I needed that good feeling this evening!
