My brain gave me a new crack ship, and so i ask, thoughts on Salem/Ruby?
I... haven't thought about that one before. Mostly because I still headcanon Salem seeing humanity 2.0 as inferior, and despite everything, she wants Ozma back in her arms.
But given an AU where Ruby has graduated from Beacon and has been on a few missions...
Salem seeks out Ruby, this new huntress that's causing problems for her. No doubt she's working for Ozma, but most huntresses tend to be led astray by him. Especially those with eyes as silver as the moon. But when she meets Ruby, she doesn't meet a fierce warrior tearing grimm apart, she finds a young woman comforting a child that had just lost their parents to grimm.
She follows Ruby as she takes the child back to the village and looks for someone to take care of the child. Family or friends of the parents that are close by until something more permanent can be arranged. Though, it doesnt take long to find someone who can. Afterall, villages like this are used to that aftermath.
But what interests Salem the most is how Ruby stays well beyond her current mission to help protect the village until help from the kingdoms arrive. Its like a patience she wished the gods could've afforded her.
When Ruby finally meets Salem, she's angry at first. He mom went missing because of her, the grimm attack villages on her command. And yet, she can't find it in herself to kill Salem. Instead, she listens to the story Salem tells her and chooses to leave to talk to Ozpin.
But she keeps finding her way back to Salem. More often than not, its because Salem had been seeking her out, other times its coincidence. But every time they meet, there's no fighting or blood spilled, just talking. Ruby tells stories of her missions while Salem tells her stories from her past before humanity was wiped.
Neither of them truly understand when they started to fall for the other, just that those feelings are strong.
