She was barely more than a child 13 or 14 and the Naumkeag girl, Tonalli, wasn’t much older when her family sailed over from Spain. The girls worked hard to communicate and chose to mostly use pictures. By the time they were 18 or so they had learned the other’s native tongue as well as the other’s heart and body.
A former schoolmate found them. She had seen the still unmarried Ruby sneak off into the forest. When she found them lying in the grass clothes scattered and bodies writhing, she sounded the alarm.
The city council found Tonalli to be guilty of bewitching young Ruby with her spellcraft, and they burned her in the town square. Ruby’s father held her still and forced her to watch while she screamed and screamed. She can still, so many centuries later, remember that smell. It was a unique blend of her and the putrid stench of burning flesh.
Ruby did not leave her bed for three weeks. Her little sister brought her water and changed her clothes. She helped her to the chamber pot and held her hair when she threw up what she had been given to eat. Six weeks. She did not count the days but Maria did, and she told her that if she did not leave her bed soon her parents were going to leave her in the woods where they had found her with the heathen girl, and if there was one thing Ruby could not do it was to return to the last place she had been truly happy.
She crawled her way from the tattered sheets and stinking hay, and her mother sent her to the market. Ruby could feel their eyes on her. The verman sneered as she walked past or worse, looked upon her with pity, but she refused to lower her eyes. She stared every one of them down and made her way to the town square.
The pire had long since been removed, but if she looked, she could still see the scorch marks on the ground. She looked up when she, once again, felt eyes on her. Across the square, there was a young woman staring back boldly with gold in her hair and fire in her eyes. It was like lightning. The moment their eyes met she was ablaze and her feet moved her across the square and she had to stop herself from touching her in that very first second. Lilith smiled sweetly with just a few too many teeth.
“I can offer you everything they stole away. All it will cost you is one little kiss and an eternity with me.” And for just a moment Ruby swore her eyes flashed yellow. But she was perfect and she was intoxicating and Ruby felt her body moving without giving it consent. Their lips sealed and Ruby swore she could feel her soul break just a little bit more, but it was healed once more a moment later; plastered over with a vile sort of power and she knew that she would be Lilith’s forever.
i. you’ll play your part and i’ll play mine. ii. you grabbed me and tugged at my soul through your own. iii. i am a stranger to kindness. iv. secrets in her lipstick mouth, shining on again. v. it all goes wrong, she sets things tragic. vi. our veins are thin, our rivers poisoned. vii. girls that glitter deceive death, we thread ourselves through innocent flesh. viii. a vial of hope and a vial of pain; in the light they both looked the same. ix. i keep you in me where the breath had been. x. i’m waiting for this test to end. xi. like romeo and juliet, in a bunker, shot through the head, everything will be beautiful. xii. did we care for one another or ourselves at all?

So If You Want Me Baby, Then Nowhere’s Where I’ll Be
Word count: 800
Pairing: Lilith x Ruby
Summary: Mere hours before the final seal is fated to be broken, two of the most important players have had enough. Lilith and Ruby are not pawns to be ordered around and sacrificed at will, not when they both still have so much left to see and do. If Heaven and Hell want a war so bad, they’ll just have to manage without them.
[Written for the SPN Femslash Bingo. Square: Lost]
The deserted gas station was the only mark of civilization the highway had to offer. Flat, dusty fields stretched out either side of the road as far as the eye could see, not so much as a bush to break the flat line of the horizon.
Ruby stood with her back to the car. The air was stagnant and heavy, pressing in on her bare face and arms and leaving her skin prickling. She couldn't wait to get further north – the hot climate near the equator didn't suit her.
Behind her the station door opened, creaking on its hinges. She turned to see Lilith walking towards her, arms laden with supplies, every step throwing up clouds of dirt around her feet. When they'd started out seventeen hours ago Ruby had scoffed at her decision to remain in the formal white dress that should have been her shroud. Now, her own black jeans and tank top were clinging to her unpleasantly, damp across her back and thighs, and she envied Lilith's freedom.
"Get everything?" she asked when Lilith levelled with the car.
"Everything they had, which was hardly anything." She opened the back door, depositing her haul onto the back seat. "I can't wait to get back to somewhere inhabited."
"The big cities are where they'll go looking first. And not just hell, remember. We screwed the guys upstairs just as much as our own boys."
"I know." Lilith's smirk was wide, her new mouth reaching right across the lower half of her face. Ruby rolled her eyes and Lilith laughed, high and sharp, "Oh, don't go all tight on me now, Ruby. Come on, you love a good chaos just as much as I do."
"I like my head attached to my shoulders more."
"Boring. That puppy was a bad influence on you."
It was Ruby's turn to smirk, "Not as much as I was on him."
Lilith wandered round the car to stand next to Ruby, somehow leaning against the door without it burning her. "Will we have to worry about the Winchesters as well?"
"Doubt it. They're virtuosos at making trouble, once they realise we're not restarting Armageddon somewhere else they'll forget all about us."
"Even dear Sammy? The poor fool seemed quite smitten with you."
"Well you would know."
"Careful." Lilith's voice was low and tinged with a deadly amusement, "We're all alone out here. No one around to hear you scream."
Ruby tipped her head back, rolling to her right shoulder until she could see Lilith in her periphery. "Now when have I ever wanted to be heard?"
They gazed at each other, heat shimmering between them that had nothing to do with the climate. Time ticked sluggishly – it could have been seconds and it could have been hours before Lilith straightened up. "We've been still too long. Time to get back on the road."
"Carry on East?" Ruby asked, opening the door and sliding into the driver's seat. Overheated metal burned on her fingers long after she'd released the handle.
"You sure we don't want to pick a destination?" Lilith asked.
Ruby snorted. "700 years, I've had nothing but destinations. I got out for a reason."
"Romantic," Lilith sneered.
Ruby threw her a derisive glance, "Can you honestly say that for once in your life you don't wanna just enjoy the ride?"
Lilith smiled, much smaller and calmer than her previous smirks. "Well my lifespan did just increase by several millenia. Got to find something to fill it."
"Atta girl." Ruby twisted the key in the ignition and the car rumbled to life, coughing and wheezing in the arid air. “Besides, when you're actually going somewhere everywhere else is either a wrong turn or detour. Who knows what kind of fun we'd miss along the way?”
“Knew you were still in there somewhere.” Lilth leaned back, feet up on the dash as Ruby peeled out of the gas station and back onto the road. “Alight then. Let's burn the map and see everything.”
“Everything?”
“No point having forever if you aren't going to use it.”
“Woman after my own heart.”
Lilith laughed, “I think I secured that years ago.”
“And I got my revenge.”
“Yes you did.”
Ruby rolled down the window, revelling in the breeze on her face and the empty road stretching ahead of them. A whole world she never thought she could have was stretching out before her. Yes, there would be several decades of keeping their heads down until the armies of Heaven and Hell got bored of searching and went back to squabbling amongst themselves. But with Lilith next to her, humming an unrecognisable tune, the thought was a lot more bearable than it might otherwise be.
She put her foot down on the pedal and sped off into nowhere.
