RWBY Rosegarden Chibi Valentineš¹ Art Collab with JC
In light of the official premiere of RWBY V9 and the day of love and chocolates that both dropped this week, here is a belated Valentineās Day themedĀ chibi collaboration Ā between myself and my daikon buddy @jealouscartoonist; featuring our favourite two Ā smaller, more honest souls.
I did the little princeĀ on the right while JC did his little red rose on the left.
Volume 10 has the potential to explore Ruby and Oscar's dynamic more in-depth than any previous volume. With both Ruby and Jaune gone, I imagine Oscar stepped up as a leader with him only being 15, the same age Ruby was when she first became a team leader. And to further strengthen the parallels, I could see Oscar pushing down his insecurities and doubts in order to lift up the others. Cue Ruby's return in which she see's that Oscar is making the same mistakes that she made and tells him that he's enough.
Ruby placed a hand on Oscarās shoulder and smiled. āHey, itās going to be okay, you know that right?ā
āIs it?ā Oscar asked. āIāve been gone for so long. I didnāt even give her a proper goodbye. Just a vague note saying that I needed to leave. Where do I even begin to start explaining to her why I left?ā
Ruby gave his shoulders a reassuring squeeze. āYou start with the truth,ā
Oscar looked up from the ground towards Ruby with a scared smile before looking back at the home in front of them. It was a modest two-story wooden house that had a spacious porch with rocking chairs resting upon it. As Oscar continued to stare at his home in worry, Ruby couldnāt help but feel sympathy for him. She knew that leaving home wasnāt the easiest thing for him to do. Not just because he was leaving his old life behind him in a sense, but also because he was being thrust into a dangerous new life that he never even asked for. While she may have chosen to exchange a simple life for the life of a huntress, Oscar wasnāt given the same level of freedom since he was chosen to be the next host for Oz. She admired the amount of bravery it must have taken for Oscar to accept this responsibility, but he also shouldnāt have been put in such a restrictive situation in the first place. Being in this situation placed a heavy burden on Oscar as he had to deal with the fear of losing his sense of self, being tortured by Salem, and the possibility that he may never even get to see his aunt again. Yet for all those burdens, Oscar had persevered with him now getting the chance to return to a life he thought heād never get to see again. But now that he was back home, he was stricken with fears and doubts.
She noticed his fingers nervously drumming against his legs while still looking at his home. Without even thinking, she interlocked her fingers with his. The action broke Oscar out of his stupor as his body seem to jolt from her action. As Oscar looked down at the gesture, Ruby could feel her cheeks get slightly warm from her action.Ā Ā
āI saw your hand and thought holding it would be helpful,ā Ruby explained bashfully. I can let go if that-ā
āN-no,ā Oscar interrupted as his cheeks seemed to grow warm. āI could use this. Thanks.ā
The two exchanged a soft smile with each other as she squeezed his hand softly before walking onto the porch with Oscar loudly knocking against the door. It took a few moments until footsteps could be heard from inside approaching the door with it being accompanied by an exasperated sigh.
āFor the last time, Iām not interested in buying any dust! Now get off my property before I-ā The womanās threat remained unfinished for as she opened the door, her expression changed from annoyance to pure shock. Even without knowing who it was ahead of time, Ruby could see the familial resemblance between Oscar and his aunt. Both had the same tan-skinned complexion and hazel eyes. But while Oscarās freckles just lay on his face, her freckles dotted along her arms along with having long messy hair. She was also surprisingly tall, though both herself and Oscar were an inch or two taller than her. It seemed like she was ready for farm work given her blue overall with a shirt underneath and mud-stained boots.
Oscar nervously smiled. āHey Aunt Em, Iām home.ā
A beat of silence hung for all but a second before Aunt Em threw her arm around Oscarās shoulders so hard that it nearly pushed Oscar (and herself) off balance. Letting go of his hand so that heād be able to recuperate the hug, Ruby watched the two relatives embrace in a heartfelt hug as tears shed from both their eyes.
āI canāt believe youāre back! Where have you been? What are the clothes youāre wearing? When was the last time you got a haircut?ā As his aunt bombarded him with questions, Oscar chuckled nervously.
āItās kind of a long story,ā Oscar explained. āThough first, I want to introduce you to my friend, Ruby Rose.ā
Aunt Em turned her gaze towards Ruby with her eyes widening in shock. āWait! Youāre that huntress who sent that message throughout Remnant!ā
Ruby blushed from the recognition and looked down at the ground. Aunt Em was the latest in a long list of people who have pointed out that theyāve seen her message. She was so focused on getting the message across to Remnant that the very fact that sheād end up becoming famous as a result completely slipped her mind. She didnāt regret it, but it resulted in large amounts of people wanting to talk to her. āYes mam, that was me.ā
Aunt Em stumbled and pinched her forehead as she seemingly tried to comprehend her current situation. āOkay, I have over a dozen questions that need answering.ā
āDonāt worry Aunt Em, I promise you everything is going to make sense,ā Oscar assured.
āThough it is a pretty long story,ā Ruby added.
Aunt Em sighed. āYeah, I had a feeling youād say that. Come on inside you two.ā
As Aunt Em entered the house, Ruby and Oscar flashed a smile at each other as they followed her into the house.

Iām here to expose myself as a RoseGarden shipper, and to briefly list the things I hope for it in the future.
Things I hope for (and I know itās probably wishful thinking):
ā¢ A RoseGarden song. We got Bmblb, Boop and Forever Fall. Granted, Forever Fall made us more sad than anything, but I think it still counts as Jaune and Pyrrhaās song. Iād really like to see a song for Ruby and Oscar
ā¢ Angst. As far as everyone in Vaccuo knows, the people who fell into the void are dead. Imagine Oscarās reaction to finding out Ruby is gone! The girl who possessed the spark to inspire. The one he could always be himself around. She was a constant light in his life, and now sheās been taken away from him. I canāt wait to see Oscarās reaction to hearing Ruby fell. It would be especially heartwarming if, after a while of him feeling lost, he remembered their conversation back in Haven and decides to keep moving forward. Just like Ruby did.
ā¢ Ozpin to get out of Oscarās head. I want this more for Oscar than for RoseGarden, but it happening would make the latter less awkward. I want Oscar to get to be his own person again. Letās say it does happen. I hope thereās time left in the series afterward for Oscar and Ruby to become closer and be able to open up to each other about how they feel. Without the ancient Professor listening in.
Now hereās for something I donāt want:
ā¢ A cheap kiss at the end of the series that has no build-up to it whatsoever.
So far, the hints weāve got for RoseGarden have been crumbs. I donāt think itās enough to justify a kiss. Heck, I wouldnāt even say the two kids are in love. I do think they have feelings for each other, but I donāt think itās quite all the way to love. Not yet, anyway.
Hereās the thing. I would rather there be no kiss than a cheap one. And if they do kiss, I donāt want it to be the stereotypical Disney Princess horse-ride into the sunset happy ending where the girl gets the prince. Thereās nothing wrong with that trope, but it doesnāt fit this series.
Iām not going to explain how I hope RWBY ends. All Iām going to say is, I donāt think RoseGarden should be the thing that wraps it up. I want RoseGarden to happen, but not at the expense of the story.
RoseGarden has always been a subtle ship. Iād love for it to steadily become less subtle, but that isnāt the same as a sudden prolonged kiss in front of a sunset before the credits roll. That works for Disney movies and Avatar. I donāt think it works for RWBY.

I think it has been more than 1 year now or 2? It was the moment when I was just scrolling in Tumblr looking for my fave cartoon ships like Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, Star vs the Forces of Evil (shooocks I missed those!) AND THEN I SAW RUBY AND OSCAR! Shocks. Believe me or not, it's a Love at First Sight! When I saw them I immediately became interested in the show, it was around before the release of Volume 7 if I'm not mistaken? And at first I was just searching "Ruby and Oscar" in YouTube until I've known more about the show and theeen, I decided to watch RWBY but the Vol. 7 first and not too long after that, I WATCH THE WHOLE SERIES FROM VOL. 1 and I loved every single episode! I'm just sad about the toxic fans out there very critical about the show. I just want them to appreciate what CRWBY is doing and very wholesome about it but anyways... Yeah! I loved the show most especially because of RoseGarden, and before RG I was really a shipper back then. Since Pokeshipping, heck I don't even knew what 'shipping' was. š
I shipped some of the characters too in Steven Universe, SVTFOE, etc.
