What do you think of the potential of Outlast Trials?
An Outlast game set during the Cold War honestly sounds fun, and terrifying.
I’m hesitantly excited for Outlast Trials. Not for the story. I’ve given up on Red Barrels being able to put together a story that plays nice with the other canon. (You can tell I’m salty as all hell about Outlast 2 and the comics, I’m just a mountain of salt. Great salt mountain.) But I’m super excited for a fun co-op horror game, and I’ve been digging the vibes of all the teaser stuff. I know you can play the game solo too, so that’ll be fun when I can’t convince any of my friends to play it with me, lmao. Like, I’ll be super well fed for horror games coming up. Outlast trials for that fun over the top Red Barrels spectacle horror, and RE8 for well... hopefully more of what they did for RE7 because that game was so nearly close to perfect for me. So good. It’ll be a good stretch for horror. NOTE: Like, ok, not to sound bitter as all hell, I’m sure the story will be serviceable. I’m sure it’ll be ok. But I’ve come to realize that I don’t really come to Outlast for the story anymore, and that’s fine. I’ll just sit in my bubble where the plot ended with Whistleblower and focus more on the fun gameplay. Red Barrels is near masterful with their ability to build tension and do phenomenal chase sequences. The scene changes in Outlast 2 were amazing, the whole theming and chase sequence for Eddie’s section of WB was outstanding horror. They do a few things very, very, well. But interconnected stories are not one of those things. And that’s fine. If Outlast Trials gets my blood pumping then it’ll be a success for me.
