Posted under a blog I haven't used in years b/c all the salty-ass RoLo blogs who blocked me NEED to see this for their own mental health. For once, I'm not going to interject my smug commentary - I'm just stating the facts (for once).

It's time to put an end to this "T'Choro is the reason we didn't get Stormverine" lie to rest once and for all. And once again, it's coming straight from the writer himself. Note, however, that all opinions are my own, which is why I've worked hard to keep them to a minimum. Also, for anyone who wants to claim that I'm making all this up, go straight to the bottom first.

I've been incredibly excited about Marvel's Wolverine ever since it was announced. Like, over-the-top excited.

Every trailer. Every gameplay reveal. Every new detail has only made me more excited for September. Insomniac has absolutely nailed Logan's look, his attitude, and the brutal feel of being Wolverine. Until now, I honestly haven't had many concerns.

But this latest reveal is the first time my excitement has cooled... and I mean, really cooled.

If the reports are accurate and Jean Grey is being positioned as Logan's primary love interest, I have to admit... I'm disappointed.

And before anyone jumps to conclusions, this isn't about me being a RoLo fan. Which I absolutely am. But that's not what this is about.

It's about Logan.

A while back I wrote about how frustrating it is to see Wolverine constantly regress into the role of the proverbial third wheel. After all these years, it feels like we're once again circling back to the same tired love triangle and the same worn-out emotional beats instead of allowing Logan to grow as a character.

For over fifty years, Wolverine has evolved in countless ways. He's been a mentor, a teacher, a leader, an Avenger, a father figure, and one of Marvel's most layered heroes. Yet when it comes to his love life, it often feels like we hit the reset button and go right back to the same dynamic.

At some point, I'd just like to see something different. I mean, let the grown-ass man finally grow up. Stop resetting him to the same emotional place every time there's a new adaptation.

That doesn't necessarily mean Logan has to end up with Storm in every version. It doesn't mean he has to end up with anyone.

It simply means I'd like to see his relationships move forward instead of constantly revisiting the same old, worn-out ground. We've all been there with him. At some point, it's okay to let this relationship go and tell a new story.

One of the things I've always appreciated about Logan is that, despite his rough exterior, he's capable of tremendous emotional growth. He's learned to trust people. He's learned to lead. He's learned to love. Those are some of the most compelling parts of his journey.

So seeing him seemingly dropped back into the same old romantic status quo is honestly disappointing.

Maybe the game will surprise me. Maybe there's far more nuance here than we've seen, and maybe the story will justify these choices in ways we don't expect.

I genuinely hope that's the case.

Because I still think Marvel's Wolverine looks phenomenal, and I'll absolutely be playing it on day one. But the excitement and joy I felt have definitely dimmed. And that's disappointing.

I just can't help feeling that, after decades of telling Logan's story, there were so many fresh directions they could have explored.

Like I said, yes... I ship RoLo. But before I became a RoLo shipper, I was a Wolverine fan and a Storm fan. I love them both as individual characters just as much as I love them as a couple. And I will always advocate for them to be portrayed in a way that truly honors their incredible legacy as characters.

So as a Wolverine fan first and foremost, I was hoping for something new.

Five Reasons Why I Love Storm and Gambit's Friendship

Ororo has gone by many names over the years. Goddess. Weather Witch. Wind Rider. Mistress of the Elements. Queen of Wakanda. Goddess of Thunder. Regent of Arakko. And most recently, Earth's Mightiest Mutant. Yet all of these titles tell only part of the story, for they merely hint at the extraordinary woman behind them and the depth that has made Storm one of Marvel's most multifaceted characters.

While Ororo is easily one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe, it is her relationships that truly reveal her compassion, empathy, and humanity. In many ways, I would argue that those qualities have always been her greatest strength.

When you think about Ororo's closest relationships, you can't help but immediately think of Logan, Jean, Kitty, Piotr, Rogue, and Kurt. And rightfully so. She shares something special with each of them, and I hope to explore some of those relationships in future Storm Saturdays. Of course, it goes without saying that Claws & Thunder is devoted to celebrating the beautiful, passionate, and enduring relationship between Storm and Wolverine seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Today, however, I want to shine a spotlight on a friendship that I have always felt deserved far more attention than it has received over the last decade. I'm talking about the friendship and family bond between Ororo Munroe and Remy LeBeau.

The two first met during Chris Claremont's legendary run when a de-aged and amnesiac Storm found herself alone and vulnerable. It was Gambit who took her under his wing. Together, they fought the Shadow King, crossed paths with Nanny and Orphan-Maker, and eventually found their way back to the X-Men. Through those adventures, the two formed a bond built on trust, love, and mutual respect.

Remy gives Ororo warmth, humor, and grounding, while Ororo gives Remy understanding, wisdom, and unconditional faith. It's one of those beautiful platonic relationships that deserves to be remembered and celebrated.

And while the comics have continued to sporadically showcase the strength of their bond, we haven't always seen that friendship fully explored in other media. X-Men: The Animated Series gave us hints. Ororo remarked that she knew Remy better than anyone in "Days of Future Past, Part 2," and the Genosha episodes showed the depth of trust between the two of them. But we never got to see Storm and Gambit share a scene in the X-Men movies.

However, the biggest missed opportunity came in Season One of X-Men '97. The showrunners never addressed Remy's concern over Ororo losing her powers and leaving the team, nor did they explore Ororo grieving the loss of one of her oldest friends or the guilt she may have felt over not being there for him. I hope future seasons rectify these omissions and delve deeper into Storm's relationship with Remy and how his death has affected her. And selfishly, I would love to see an episode exploring their shared histories as thieves.

So for this week's Storm Saturday, I thought I'd celebrate one of my favorite and most underrated relationships in the X-Men universe: the friendship between our resident Weather Witch and everyone's favorite Swamp Rat.

Here are my top five reasons why I love Ororo and Remy's friendship.

5. They Found Each Other When They Needed Family Most A de-aged and amnesiac Ororo and a young Gambit found each other at exactly the right time. Remy was there when Ororo was at her lowest, and in turn, Ororo gave Remy a sense of purpose and an opportunity to become the hero he was always meant to be.

4. They Shared a Bond Built on Trust Ororo has always believed in Remy, despite his secrets and his troubled past. Their friendship was built on mutual trust, compassion, and faith in one another, even when others had their doubts.

3. Their Shared Histories as Thieves Gave Them a Unique Understanding Long before they became X-Men, both Ororo and Remy survived by their wits. Their experiences as thieves and outsiders gave them a perspective few others could truly understand, and I would love to see future stories explore that common ground even more.

2. They Brought Out the Best in Each Other Remy's compassion and humor complemented Ororo's warmth and unwavering faith in him. And while Ororo may roll her eyes every time Remy calls her "Stormy," I think we all know she secretly loves the nickname.

1. They Felt Like Family To me, Ororo and Remy have always had an exasperated big sister and charming little brother dynamic. Not every meaningful relationship has to be romantic. Their bond always felt genuine, loving, and rooted in mutual respect. Through all the ups and downs, Storm and Gambit have always felt like family.

One of the things I've always loved most about the X-Men is that they are more than just a superhero team. At their best, they're a family. And families are built not only on romance, but also on friendship, trust, loyalty, and love.

For me, that's what Ororo and Remy's relationship has always represented. Through all the adventures, heartaches, triumphs, and losses, they have always felt like family. And while I hope future comics and adaptations do a better job of celebrating their bond, I'll always have a soft spot for the friendship between our beloved Weather Witch and everyone's favorite Swamp Rat.
