Tuesday Night
That was an awesome night. I got to Roggies right at 7:30 and managed to grab an early spot, hoping that I'd be able to get an earlier spot at the next open mic at the Middle East bar (I didn't). My set at Roggies went pretty well, my delivery felt a little off, but the crowd was pretty responsive. All in all, a pretty good set. Soon after my set I left to head for the Middle East bar hoping for an early spot, but I wasn't early enough and was one of the last ones to go up again. Later on that night I learned that people come by as early as 8:30 to grab an early spot. That means I have to get a super early spot at Roggies then leave immediately after to get a good spot at the Middle East (since the open mic at Roggies starts at 8).
Anyway, this is the part where my night went from alright to super fantastic awesome fun time. About halfway through the open mic, I see Myq Kaplan, my absolutely favorite comedian, walk into the bar and do a quick five minute set. I went up to him and said that I was a big fan and that I enjoyed his set, but didn't really talk to him or try and start a conversation. I wish I made an attempt, but I was nervous and didn't want to be a crazy fan boy.
Anyway, that was my tuesday night.... A bit of a lackluster post. I always want to make a nice long post and go into great detail about the night, but I just end up being lazy and only write about all the basic stuff.
Tuesday Night
Been lazy the last few days, but now I finally have some time to write down what went down on Tuesday. Let's get to it.
So the plan for Tuesday was to leave at 6:30 and arrive at Roggies at around 8, then head over to the Middle East bar after the set at Roggies to do another set there. I was a bit skeptical about Roggies because the set up there, quite frankly, kind of sucks, but I couldn't pass up two open mics a night so I went anyway (The set up isn't that great because the place is really well lit which just throws us comics off our rhythm a lot). Anyway, when I got to Roggies I saw a few familiar faces there, but I didn't say anything to them since I'm terrible at introducing myself to people. I signed my name on the sign up sheet and waited for my turn to go up.
I got on stage and after around three minutes of material, I fumbled on a joke. Last time I was at Roggies, I also messed up a joke, so instead of trying to finish the rest of it, I just went on a rant about how the room shouldn't be so well lit which actually got a good reaction from the crowd, who were otherwise seemed disinterested, but they were mostly comics who were waiting for their turn to go on stage so that's understandable. That was actually a really awesome moment for me because that was my first time on stage where I was just, essentially, free styling it and what I was saying was getting laughs. I remember them laughing pretty hard when I said that I could see all their faces.Â
Went in not expecting much, left pretty happy with my performance.
After my set at Roggies, me and my friend immediately left and went to the Middle East bar. We got there late, but that was expected, and didn't go up until around 1 am. I did my set, but since I was nearly one of the last ones to go up, there wasn't much of a crowd and they were all tired from the comics before me, so they were pretty unresponsive. It was a good night though, the Middle East bar is a pretty awesome open mic and will definitively be there... when there's gas in the tank.
And yeah, that was my Tuesday night. Pretty boring post, maybe I should write this stuff earlier when I'm not so tired... Anyway, stand up. It's fun.Â
