#rocket men

Love is in the air and it's not even February yet! Everywhere ya look there's ships everywhere and even the animals are feeling it too! Yep, it's today's new episode, "Love Birds" and whaddya know, it's a pets themed one too! Let's dive right on in!

A sunny afternoon in the backyard of Casa Loud as the four main animals of the family are roughhousing like always. Well.....except for Walt. Our feathered friend is lovestruck and too focused on finding love. Realizing his plight, Walt's furry buddies seek out to help him get the girl! *one failed attempt later* Oookay, what I meant to say was that they set out on a mission to find the one true love for Walt. Will our canary have the bird of his dreams?!

I'm gonna say it, Walt deserved an episode! That bird tends to get overshadowed quite a lot compared to the other pets, so seeing him get an episode focusing on him is quite nice! I did enjoy seeing the pets in their antics, and the peanuts style way of showing the Louds so as to keep them out of focus while having them around. The effort the our Loud animals put into helping Walt get a girlfriend was nice to see. While not much else to really say without spoiling, this episode was very touching, and even hit me with plenty of feels near the end. If this is what we get for Walt, on top of Charles having a spotlight in the recent Lana episode, we may see something really good for Geo and Cliff!

Also, Charles is clearly the leader......just sayin.

We packed their bags.......last night, preflight! Zero hour.........and they're gonna be.......in for a wild time in this episode. This..... is "Rocket Men"!

We find our goofball duo of Lincoln and Clyde in the middle of watching Starship Groupers (wow, we haven't this one get much attention since......season 1? Wow has time flown by). Sounds like a good time, but then an ad for space camp pops up, sending the boys into a wave of excitement! With some much extra convincing thanks to the boys' presentation skills, the parents agreed to let them go to camp! With a new futuristic and high tech adventure awaiting them, are Lincoln and Clyde gonna have the time of their lives?

Okay, clearly someone said we needed more Clincoln McLoud episodes this time around.......and I'm okay with that. This one is no exception, especially when this one differs from the superhero themed Ace & Jack episodes (gotta give the announcer voice a break sometimes). Camp can be either the coolest thing or the worst thing, there seems to be no in-between, and for these two well.......oof. If ya ask me, a lot of the stuff they did was pretty cool, especially the gyroscope (maximum speed ftw). Of course halfway through it isn't all that's cracked up to be, at least for them (maybe they weren't prepared enough for it all). They felt so defeated by the end of the day, which sucks given what the camp has to offer (except the food......that's a nope). That said, the old "escape the camp" segment gave me some good chuckles. The ending moments though, not too bad but a solid way to cap off the episode. A pretty good Clincoln McLoud outing, but not to much to get super hyped for either.

Also, how have we STILL not seen Dr. Lopez yet?! Four seasons and I'm still hoping for a Clyde episode that involves her!

Now we’re up to the next set of new episodes starting with only the second episode in the series centered around the main Loud family pets (after the season 2 episode “Pets Peeved”) called “Love Birds”. How did the attempt to find Walt a love connection fare? Let’s take a look..

Love how cute Walt looks when he’s looking at the Flamingo and it was sweet how Charles, Cliff and Geo helped him look his best to try and make a good impression. Felt bad for him when he found out his ‘love’ was a just Mr. Grouse’s plastic flamingo..poor embarrassed and heartbroken Walt! 

Got a good laugh at Lana being able to read the sign on Walt’s birdhouse..apparently she can read ‘canary’..hehe. Loved seeing the other pets try to find a new bird girlfriend for Walt, striking out with a Hummingbird that was hanging out with Lola (due to the little bird probably being too fast for him), a mourning dove that was helping Lucy (who’s song might make him too sad), an owl playing chess with Lisa (because the owl’s ability to turn her head all the way around might gross him out) and eagle who tries to swoop down on the trio before finding a beautiful female duck talking to some frogs at Tall Timbers Pond. Loved the imagine spots with each of the potential suitors..especially the last with them seeing wedding bells with Walt and the duck.

Got another laugh at Walt looking all disheveled after emerging from his birdhouse and with how the other three pets ‘cleaned’ him up. 

Was sweet watching Walt hit it off with the girl duck (while eating Lynn Sr.’s lasagna). Was so sad to see when she announced she had to go fly south for the winter with her family and Walk’s sad reaction..but the other pets have a plan. 

Was funny seeing each of the reactions to the missing items (Lana missing her sand, Lynn Sr.’s wave machine, Lincoln missing three of his polo shirts..( with Lana using one to change the oil in vanzilla,,hehe), Lisa’s heat lamp for her crocodile eggs (which she quickly hides again),Lola with the Lemonde Mr. Grouse’s flower leaves and Leni looking for the beach umbrella (only for Lincoln to point out it’s fall..hehe)) and it was sweet for Charles and the others to get the duck to stay (with her parent’s blessing) with the special ‘Florida’ vacation setting in his doghouse. 

Was sad to see the duck girl miss her family and still have to leave..and it was sweet to see the other pets push Walt into joining her in Florida. Was so cute seeing them snuggle on the beach..now it was Walt’s turn to miss his friends..aww. 

Just loved the sweet reunion with Walt coming back to Charles, Cliff and Geo..not to mention the postcard that the duck girl sent, saying (in duck which Lana can read too..hehe) how she can’t wait to see him in the spring..aww! 

This was such a sweet, adorable and creative episode. Loved the pet’s interactions with each other and how they communicated with each other. I thought the use of perspective (with how they never showed the Louds and Mr. Grouse’s faces throughout the episode) was very clever. Overall a very enjoyable episode..hopefully we’ll see more episodes like this in the future

Next up is “Rocket Men”.. how did Lincoln and Clyde’s adventure at Space Camp fare? Let’s take a look..

Was funny seeing Lincoln and Clyde’s reactions to the camp commercial (those big starry eyes..hehe. Was great seeing Lincoln’s blue suit again and was nice seeing both Lynn Sr. and Rita as well as both Harold & Howard McBride in a more expanded role than the last episode they were in. 

Was cute seeing how enthusiastic Lincoln and Clyde were to see the camp for the first time and seeing how excited the counselor was to see them. Was funny seeing their misadventures the first day..was clear they were in way over their heads. 

Could really feel for them when they wanted to go home that night while the parents suggested they try and find something they might like the next day. 

Got a good laugh at them trying to escape, only to be thwarted each time..hehe.Was also funny when they stumbled upon the flight simulator..not to mention the ‘bored’ guy watching the computer and starting it up. 

Liked seeing Lincoln and Clyde work together to inadvertently pass the simulator by working together. Was great to see them be excited after all. 

The ending was sweet with the boys telling their parents they wanted to stay after all and the parents agreeing..with Lynn Sr. mentioning a pancake place on the way home for the parents to go to..hehe

This was a decent episode overall. There were a lot of funny moments and some sweet ones as well but I wish there coulda been a little more to this one. Feel like it was better suited as a longer episode.

CLEVELAND, Ohio—You can be forgiven if you haven’t heard the term “rocket men” before—not outside of golden oldies stations and genre fiction at least. These days, it’s an Ohio term, though the phenomenon stretches across the Midwestern US: In Indiana, they’re calling them Flyboys. In Chicago, Go-Boots. In Missouri, they’re Jayhawks. But no matter what title they’re working under, the phenomenon is the same. Increasingly, blue-collar transport workers and rocket pilots—roles that have been traditionally reserved for space townies out in the starry boonies—are living on Earth, and in this case, in Earth . . . Ohio, that is. 

Ruth Elstar is one of many rocket men who make their home in the small city, which lies almost due south of Cleveland, near Wooster. “I moved here four years ago,” says Elstar. “The city was practically giving away lots in some of the mobile and rocket park areas, and they were saying ‘Hey, Mr. Spaceman, don’t you want a home?’ and, you know, I realized—I did want a home.” For many years, space pilots like Elstar lived without a permanent address, ping-ponging between the small asteroid towns and rest stations along Flight Path 66, from Mercury to Pluto, while her son grew up on Earth with his grandfather. “It was tough. Not everyone recognizes rockets as homes, and you don’t qualify for the longer shift schedules without an address. It’s tough being away from your family. I didn’t want to live in a space town because they’re so small, and I want my son to be able to go to school and make friends and be social.”

When the city of Earth came along with special lot offers in 2153, Elstar quickly purchased a plot in the packed mobile home area they call Luna Park, where most properties are equipped with plenty of space for a personal launch pad. Now, she lives two months at a time in space and two months at home on Earth. When she’s home, she helps her father run errands, makes dinner for her and her son, and catches up with friends. When it’s time to work again, she fires up her iconic Flarestream Travel Rocket and makes the long commute to and from Neptune or Titan. “Then I bop around the outer planets, transporting diapers and things to the more remote stations before I head back home.” Her new schedule has vastly improved her work-life balance and ensures she gets to spend more time with her son. Elstar isn’t the only beneficiary. In the past few years, hundreds of rocket men have turned up to make Earth, Ohio, their new home. From Solar System mail carriers to seasonal space restaurant workers and waitresses to salesmen and even asteroid miners, more and more people are leaving resource-poor space towns to make their homes on solid ground while keeping their careers in the stars—and the city of Earth, historically a pilots’ town, is an ideal location for rocket men’s unusual work schedules and housing needs.
