Virgo Vinyl Challenge day 10: Bass is the place! Bass is my favorite instrument, both to play and to listen to… I’m always focused on the bass line. So here’s one of my less-discussed favorite bassists: Robert Sledge of Ben Folds Five. His parts are so playful and inventive, he’s often more jazz or funk than alt rock, and of course THE FUZZ. If I could magically have the skills of aby bassist, it would probably be him.

A collection of story artwork by Robert Sledge for Piglet's Big Movie (2003)
Starting off with some beat board drawings ft. Piglet in the first act of the film
Some more beat boards, these ones utilizing marker in addition to pen, which is something I personally love when looking at Robert's story illustrations for this movie. In addition to how expressive the characters in his work are, the coloring here really makes them stand out.
Next, a storyboard drawing ft. Eeyore, Pooh, Tigger, and Roo! According to Robert, "back then I used markers to color in many section of my boards when I had time. This drawing is from one sequence were the gang's looking for the lost Piglet."

I love seeing all this early story material, getting to see what scenes were later changed or discarded, along with what ideas were toyed around with before eventually being altered to fit the final version of the film.

Again, it's super neat seeing remnants of original story beats, and I just have to mention how much I adore the way Rabbit's illustrated in these 💛
