August brings some new items, some weird items, and some new releases of old but still good items!
Dr. Frank: The Phantom Project by Andrew Luna looks like it’s one of those classic-monster pastiches, which like a few in the past seems to be suggesting that the Phantom was created or encouraged somehow by Dr. Frankenstein.
The Lord’s Dirty Secret by Ella Edon is a Regency romance, but that doesn’t stop it from starring an opera singer with a secret admirer, a sexy aristocrat who falls instantly in love, and a whole bunch of sexual tension among the three of them.
Music for Murder by Robert Joseph is a murder mystery set at the fictional New York Municipal Opera, which sounds like a hilarious government-run operation, and it explicitly calls out its plot as reminiscent of the Phantom story in its blurb.
Phoenix’s Phantom by C.B. Samet is a modern-day retelling and it has it all: a secret saboteur meddling with Broadway performances, a beautiful star who keeps hearing ghostly singing under the floor, and a handsome producer who wants to reconnect with a lost love. I have no idea if the lead’s name being Phoenix means it’s related to Phantom of the Paradise, but it definitely could be and we’ll have to find out!
And we’ve got two bonus rereleases! Davyne DeSye’s Phantom trilogy is now available in a box set, and Cecilia Dominic’s steampunk fantasy Clockwork Phantom is now available as an audiobook! If either of those works better for you than the original release, now is your shot!
