REVIEW
The Boomerang by Robert Bailey
~ What motivates people, businesses, religions, and governments? Is it based on self-interest or concern for others? When does self or the love of one other become more important than the welfare of all? I asked myself some of these questions as I read this book and hoped that I would be more like Mato, or even Nester, than like Raymond and his group. ~
What I liked:
* That it made me thinkā¦what if?
* The focus on the current issue of health care, its cost, and the inequality of care availability
* That though most of the characters were flawed and not easy to admire, some still had redeeming qualities that led them to do heroic acts
* Being able to admire some of the characters even though they had done reprehensible things
* Thinking about what motivated the ones holding tightly to āboomerangā and in contrast, what was required of those working to access āboomerangā
* That the story was crafted in a way that I could see it unfolding like a movie playing before me
* That it allowed me to feel with the characters whether fighting for their lives or exulting in good than happened
* Being able to dislike and wish evil karma on more than one character in the book
* The plot, pacing, setting and writing
* It took me awhile to get into the flow of the story but once hooked, couldnāt put it down
* The friendships between Eli & Lionel and between Nester & Dale
* That even though a husband and wife or two had either divorced or grown apart, they still managed to come together to work on a common cause
* The twist at the end
* That there was hope on the last page and wondering what will happen in the future of many of the characters ā and wondering if some of the characters might show up in later books
What I didnāt like: * Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about the team in charge of boomerang, their warped viewpoint, and what they did to protect something that should have been made available to all

REVIEW
Rich Justice by Robert Bailey
Jason Rich #3
āThere is only one kind of justice on Sand Mountainā¦ā and that is often a bullet rather than a prison sentence. Great story addition to the series.
What I liked:
* Jason Rich: lawyer, wealthy, alcoholic who fell off the wagon when his license was suspended, in a dark place, good friends with the Tonidandels ā like brothers to him, brilliant, hereās his deceased sisterās voice at times, accused of murder
* Shay Lankford: lawyer, ex-District Attorney, bright, trying to find her purpose, becomes advisor to Jason as he defends himself, loves her mother, might be a future love interest
* The Tonidandels: three brothers that were wild as children, are distinguished military veterans, lethal, protective and there for those that they care about ā they did not come out unscathed this time
* The small-town dynamics and finding out why and how the meth-king has more power in many ways than the law
* The plot, pace, setting, and writing ā drew me in and kept me reading from beginning to end * The unexpected twists and turns and way I felt at the end
* The complexity of the case facing Jason and how he finally manages to get the facts needed to win a very personal case
* That Sand Mountain justice was achieved even though there was collateral damage
* That there was a bit of light at the end that had me wanting to find out what happens next.
What I didnāt like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The ruthlessness of the drug gang and the fear all have when they are around

Rich Waters by Robert Bailey
Jason Rich #2
Wow! This book picks up a few months after the first with Jason Rich coerced into taking another murder trial case while juggling care for his niece, stay sober, and stay out of trouble with the state bar association. Intense, intricately plotted, interesting ongoing journey that has me rooting for Rich to succeed.
What I liked: * Jason Rich: lawyer, wealthy, alcoholic, complicated, cares deeply about his family, dealing with personal demons, brilliant, really feel for him
* Izzy: Jasonās law partner ā didnāt see much of her in this book
* Harry: investigator for Jasonās law firm, ex-military, good at what he does, had a smaller part but very large part in this book * Chase: Jasonās childhood neighbor, friend, and lover, military veteran, has PTSD, troubled, not sure what will happen to her after this book * Nola & Niecy: Jasonās nieces, lost both parents when their father was murdered in the first book, eldest at college and youngest in high school and having difficulties after her parents deaths * The Tonindandels: three brothers that were wild as children, are distinguished military veterans, lethal, protective and there for those that they care about ā really like these men * The Tyson Cade thread: meth kingpin of the area, easy to dislike, will do anything to stay on top of his mountain * The plot, pace, setting, and writing ā drew me in and kept me reading from beginning to end * The unexpected twists and turns
* The complexity of the case facing Jason and how he finally managed to get the facts needed to represent his client
What I didnāt like: * Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about all the bad things as they happened and how what I was reading all too often occurs in real life
