jibeom can’t stop the grin from forming on his face when he’s standing in the same practice room as changbin. “this is like... the first evaluation we’re doing together since we both became trainees!” wrapping his arms around his friend, he buried his face into changbin’s shoulder. “hmm, even though we live together, we never see each other anymore...” jibeom’s voice is slightly muffled by the other’s shirt but it’s obvious to tell how much he’s pouting after missing his friend.
“oh but i can’t wait to hear you rap in person, binnie.” it’s true, after all. jibeom doesn’t think he’s really heard the other rap in person before either aside from like bits here and there that he vaguely recalls from the mgas. other than that, it’s just not the same as hearing it for himself. “can’t wait to wow you with my amazing vocals this time~”

「 Hola Now? 」
⇢ Royal Eval Apr 2k20 | +3 D ; +2 DB ; +1 Wk Hip Hop
⇢ Yuzu being forever lost w. @rkxbin | reference video
“ that... did not sound like the song they had been learning... ”
the month had been rough. changbin was extremely awkward, the both of them completely lost but coping and the coaches relentlessly calling them out at random times to dance parts of the choreo only for the two of them to end up deflating in a pile of defeat by the end of the day.
but with progress things got better and the coaches got less mad at them whenever they’d get called out and could actually deliver. towards the second half changbin wasn’t as awkward as he used to be even doe he still blushed a lot. yuzu wonders if it’s him getting comfortable with the dance or if it was her easy going nature that helped. either way, the dancer was content with their progress.
for two new trainees they were doing well in her opinion!
but when d-day came, everything felt like it fell apart all over again. looking utterly confused as they were informed they’d be dancing to another song, yuzu looked back at changbin before turning to the coach. she rose a finger and opened her lips to inquire if this was a bad belated april fools joke but the face of the coaches told her to not even dare utter a word.
so the streamer bend her finger back down and tilted her head, brows raising as if to say “okay, nevermind”. with a shrug she finally turned to changbin and just encouraged him that they should make the best out of it.
dancing to a sexy song rather than an upbeat one definitely felt weird and it showed in the way yuzu couldn’t stop herself from giggling her way through the whole routine but they had been dancing this so much that despite a few stumbles, she was actually able to perform the whole routine well. when they were done she couldn’t help but laugh loudly though.
“what is this sourcery?! how did this even work?!”
hongjoong needs a little air. he needs a little room to breathe.
maybe if he just takes a break, he’ll be able to think about the things he needs to a little easier. practice is still stifling and it’s hard on him when he’s suffering through whether he wants to continue to follow this path or leave it, and it’s all that he’s been doing over and over again, day in and out. he doesn’t spare any time for himself.
there was a time that hongjoong thought that this was easier than being a trainee and uncertain, but he thinks perhaps he’d trade that any day for a chance at grasping his own sanity. that’s why he walks the halls of royal, forcing himself out into the now darkened corridors with a consideration of maybe, perhaps, sitting in the garden that night. some fresh air with the winter flowers and the trees would do him good.
he doesn’t expect to meet with changbin on the way. “ oh? you’re here late.” he pauses, realizing just how much of the trainee’s growth that he’s missed since he was spirited away as a member of decode. the smile that hangs on his lips is crooked. “ wanna join me? i’m thinking of sitting up on the roof.” hongjoong gestures upwards. “ you should probably bring a coat, though.”
⭐️MGA 5 EPISODE 3
↪ perfoming romanticism by leo with @rkjeonghxn
outfit inspiration: x x
line distribution & times: x
it’s always easier to move on to the next round when there are a lot of contestant. the fewer they become and the harder the choices will be for the five ceos. there’s undoubtedly a lot of raw talent in this room, some maybe more polished than others, some mostly relying on their popularity and star factor. the latter can’t be downplayed of course, as there’s no reason to have skill in the first place if people aren’t interested in you or want to follow you. still, it’s always a little annoying to see such people get by with minimal talent.
soon after jinyoung returned to his seat following his interview, the entire set falls silent. everyone’s eyes are glued to the judging panel, waiting for the dreaded moment when they will announce the results. his newly found acquaintance changbin is nominated as the top rapper, which comes to no surprise to jinyoung, but it’s choi minho who takes the win. unlike a lot of people here, jinyoung doesn’t feel any type of way for that guy. despite his best friend being in convex, he knows very little about the group and what kind of drama happened that led to the rapper’s departure. he’s not a hater nor is he a fan, and although he didn’t dislike his performance, he wouldn’t have gave him the win either.
he keeps a straight face throughout the eliminations, just quietly wishing not to be on that list when the singer’s turn comes. the top 3 dancers are called to the stage, and he recognizes hwang yeji from that one day at the hospital. they haven’t spoken since and he wishes her well. she’s a pretty good dancer despite her young age, but so is lee chaeryeong. as for suwoong, well, it’s not a question of talent really, but more his personality that jinyoung can’t quite figure out. he’s satisfied with yeji’s win, just as he is satisfied with heejin’s win later on. there was a slight disappointment about not making the top 3 but then again, he still believes he performed the best he could. for someone as obsessed with perfect as he is, it’s hard to accept average results, but he’s a good sport. heejin, as he’s noted multiple times already, is a very good singer. he wonders if she can dance well too, because if she does then she’s almost guaranteed to go to the end. her looks are very idol-like, not to mention she’s young.
joohyun was probably the most surprising elimination for jinyoung. he knew she made a mistake, they all did, and it’s unexpectedly fair that they wouldn’t favor her due to her past participations and already established level of popularity. she’s one of the known contestants here that everyone talks about to the point where jinyoung also knows about it, and even if don’t want to show bias, maybe he thought they would show more leniency towards someone they know, and he now stands corrected. there is no second chance in this competition, and no room for weakness.
he applauds heejin’s win with a proud smile, and it’s probably the first time anyone will have caught him looking so pleased since the very first audition. he’s also happy for sihyeon who’s finally been recognized for her talent. it’s kind of funny how some of those who changed categories managed to survive unlike those who truly wanted to show their best skill. in hindsight, it was pretty clever of them to do so and jinyoung wonders if this was calculated on their part. he doubts so for daniel, who probably just innocently wanted to show another side of himself. but that’s if he’s still the same person he knew all those years ago in busan. maybe he’s changed, like jinyoung did.
he doesn’t care much for the following eliminations, as nobody he knows has been sent home. instead, he pays close attention to what is said next. they are to be paired off in duos and present a neat performance showing not only talent but also teamwork. and it’s probably what he dreads most as of now. it’s not as easy for him to get along with people as much as he’d like, and depending on who he ends up with, this assignment might be his first real challenge. he doesn’t necessarily want to be with a friend, however, because it doesn’t always mean it will lead to a good performance. he ends up with yoon jeonghan.
they’re not friends per say, but they do know of each other and have worked together in the past on musical productions. jinyoung is very enthusiastic at the idea of performing with someone who has talents and tastes similar to his, but it can also be an obstacle in the end. they can’t put up something too expected. it’ll be boring to watch for everyone.
that’s the subject they talk about when they first meet up for practice. “since they know we’re both passionate about musicals, i don’t think we should choose that type of song. what do you think?” he asks jeonghan who promptly agrees. they’re both aware they need to showcase something different, more creative and challenging. something that will throw the judges off, hopefully in a good way. they spend a while just searching online, or scrolling down their playlists in order to find the perfect fit. and after going through several choices, they finally decide on romanticism by leo. the key is to make all the right changes to the choreography and harmonies so it looks and sounds as if it was meant for two people instead of just one. they need to be in complete unison, and not just seem like two individuals performing the same song at the same time.
their first practice consists of making these arrangements and going through them a couple times to see if they fit well, and deciding on the parts they’ll each sing. they both agree to practice on their own whenever they have free time, then meet together every day for several hours so they can put it all together. it just won’t work if they both work separately.
while jinyoung criticizes a lot, he’s also very open to criticism himself. as long as it’s nothing insulting, he believes this is the only way one will grow, and not with fake praises. if he sucked, he wants to know. if he does one movement wrong, he wants to know so he can fix it. if jeonghan feels it would be better if they switched one part because it sounds off, he’ll be open to the idea. what he finds exhausting is those who are too scared to make any kind of negative comment, or who take everything too personal. they’re impossible to work it, not to mention annoying. it’s all meant to enhance the performance. the judges won’t chose the best out of the two of them. so either they win together, or fail together. it doesn’t matter if one sings five seconds more, as long as it makes the whole thing better.
it’s surprisingly easy to work with jeonghan, and jinyoung comes home at night almost with a spring in his step, telling mina about how practice is going with a lot more details than usual. he’s optimistic, hopeful. if it were to suddenly come crashing down....
the two men sit next to each other, and jinyoung can’t help but notice there’s so few of them compared to the first episode. sixty chairs have disappeared since then. he remains exactly like the second episode, face stoic as he watched the first few duos perform on stage. the only moments he stops being a statue is in-between performances, as he leans over to jeonghan and whispers things inaudible to cameras, about what he liked and didn’t like.
yugyeom goes before with him, with a contestant called do kyungsoo, and he honestly has no idea what to expect when they first start. it seems like they managed to use each other’s strength and make up for the other’s weakness quite well, and jinyoung hopes it’s enough for them to make it through. some of the duos make unexpected yet good pairs, and some match so well it’s almost boring. he wonders if this will be the case for jeonghan and him, although they didn’t go for a musical number. are their skills too similar? but it’s not like they can suddenly pretend one of them can rap either, so there’s nothing they can do about it if they were put together.
they go near the end, with only three duos left after them. they both bring a chair to the center of the stage and sit on them after introducing themselves. the original artist has a very specific way of dancing, that makes every movement look smooth but not sloppy, and sensual but not sexual. there’s a fine line they can’t cross, and jinyoung does feel like they got in down after hours and hours of practice. jeonghan starts off the song with his first lines.
In my mind you’re my lord,
the reality is not close enough
You’re my one
You’re my one
jinyoung parts his legs in a swift motion as the dance obliges, and because there are no backdancers, instead of gesturing to his empty side, he briefly cups jeonghan’s chin instead, making it one of a several modifications to the original choreography. it’s not hard to imagine he’s singing to his girlfriend right now, and wishing she was the one dancing with him. jeonghan and him aren’t exactly flirting together, their actions more inclined to the audience, but there still needs to be a connection between them, a sensuality that can be felt all the way to the very back of the studio.
I see through your body,
The sign that gets my sensitivity wet
Your eyes are chasing after my movement
As if saying come after you
in the middle of this verse they both stand up, leaving their chairs behind for the time being. the way they arranged this part suits the lyrics well. it’s as if they’re also chasing each other, delivering their lines back and forth like one echoes the other, and as jeonghan finishes it, jinyoung prepares for the chorus. two minutes isn’t long at all, and after this they’re jumping straight to the bridge so the transition isn’t too cut and dry.
Dive-in for me at this moment,
make me shiver one time
Romanticism in our world
together now
Let’s feel it romantically, together now
the dance gets more intense and demanding, but they’ve arranged for them to sing half of it together, harmonizing each other. jinyoung’s gaze is piercing, and he has fun flirting with the crowd. there are a lot of parts in this song where they rub their chest, their face or roll their hips, and there’s a risk to make it look cheap and very cringe-worthy if they’re not careful, so they made sure to tell the other whenever it was too much, or not enough. they want to mesmerize the audience, not turn it off.
Piece of you for just one moment
Feel me from now on
Let’s feel it sensually, together now
Girl you know I’m watching you
together now
they had to cut the last chorus in half to fit in the time requirement, but in the end it doesn’t really matter since they jump next into the other half which is kind of a nice follow-up and uses the same lyrics. they sing most of it together, dancing in sync.

운명을 찾아낸 둘이니까 190725 MGA SEASON 5 + EPISODE FIVE + #5050 FEATURING : CHOI MINHO & JEON HEEJIN
⟨ ━━ ❀ ° PART ONE: PERFORMANCE, BBOOM BBOOM + DNA ( 0:00 - 1:55 ) ⟩
her mouth is full of chunks of noodles but she speaks anyway, hand raised to her mouth in an attempt to make the action appear a little less nasty than it actually was. “honestly - i don’t mind.” her pink hair waves with the rapid shaking of her head - adding on to the fact that they were all practically saying the same thing. “dancing, singing, it’s whatever! just don’t make me rap, please?” and that was a personal plea.
an invitation from minho brought the trio to a restaurant that kyulkyung was just so in love with. they gathered in hopes of getting to know one another better and figure out exactly what they would be doing the rest of the week. and so far, this was going better than the woman could’ve hoped for.
when her pairing was once again announced first, it was hard to contain her excitement. this week she had truly hit the jackpot.
“i’ve danced this entire time, i’m sure everyone’s bored with it.” she jokes, pausing to take a sip of water amidst her devouring of her noodles. this certainly wasn’t her usual burger after thursday filming, but it did not disappoint. “i can sing, dance, do both!! it’s okay!”
in all honesty, she worried a bit about her performances on the show. were they becoming too repetitive? kyulkyung had yet to showcase any singing skill the entirety of her time on the show ( other than her audition ), and the fact made her nervous. sure, she was a good dancer, but wasn’t she more than that?
the woman kept these worries to herself, wanting to do what would be best for everyone rather than just herself. advancing was crucial for the whole team, not just two of them, and that involved some leniency when it came to selecting a performance. everyone needed to be comfortable, willing to share the spotlight equally and lucky for them, that was exactly the case.
❀
kyulkyung admittedly was not a morning person. usually bright and peppy, the woman could barely manage to crack a genuine smile when sleep still laced every nerve and muscle in her body. it was a tiny bit easier when she was walking with heejin - her hair messily tied up into a bun and face bare despite the cameras that awaited them in sphere’s practice room.
the thought of practicing in a company practice room was exciting to her, but the woman managed to keep her cool. she didn’t know much about many kpop idols, but knowing that practicing in these rooms meant that they were that much closer to the end was thrilling. it was hard to believe that they were going into episode five - that she was going into episode five.
she auditioned without worries, not thinking of how far she could actually make it and yet here she was - walking into a sphere practice room to prepare for the fifth episode’s performance, hopes high and soaring as wild as ever.
the pair are expecting minho to meet them at the practice room, but she is NOT expecting the fear that overcomes her when she sees something unexpectedly colorful and tall sitting ominously in the center of the room. kyulkyung pauses midstep - door pressed firmly against her palm and mouth open in shock as she stares at the... clown wig?
the woman looks around before narrowing her eyes at the mirror, biting down on her lip but unable to stop the smile that spreads across her lips when minho’s reflection stares back at her.
“heejin... should we be worried?” she whispers to the other girl, leaning a bit closer to her partner but eyes fixated on the clown wig that rests atop minho’s head.
“just one question.” she calls out into the room, “how long have you been sitting there like that?”
❀
practice for episode five was vastly different than the past week’s. kyulkyung was filled with worry while the environment that surrounded her this week proved to be vastly different. alongside having a trio that just genuinely got along and decided on their roles easily, the other group that shared the room with them made the experience that much more enjoyable. from facetiming suwoong from kyungsoo’s phone to eating the quiche he brought it, it was hard for the woman to have any type of worry.
not to mention changbin who just had to flatter her and boost her ego a thousand times over. “you’re one of the best dancers here!” and she just couldn’t help but hug him.
the thought crossed her mind at least once, maybe she was just having too much fun. but she just couldn’t help it.
the light-hearted nature of their performance made it easy to enjoy, but exciting to watch, the woman loved piecing it together, laughing over their mistakes but growing confident in their teamwork.
“oh my god, minho - heejin now!” kyulkyung gestured wildly to the younger girl who stood a wreck. her hair askew, flying in all directions because of the headgear that framed her eyes.”we have to protect her image! hurry!!” she was laughing but moving quickly to stick her face in front of the camera - making dumb faces at the lenses as minho took care of heejin’s mess. their practices involved a lot of this, a lot of laughs and food but also a lot of excitement.
she had done fun routines before, but none like this. it was easy to smile, genuine movements able to create an undeniably alluring performance.
and she couldn’t wait to show it.
❀
when filming came around, the woman couldn’t help the anticipation leading up to their stage. it was hard to sit still, becoming more thankful that they were the first trio to perform as she couldn’t imagine waiting much longer. similar to last week, kyulkyung hoped they could introduce episode five in a good way - set that bar high and expectations wild for the remained of the episode. performing first meant not having the pressure of following up a good stage and she’s sure that at this point in the competition, everything would be a good one.
the mashup they selected complemented each other nicely, the stage they formulated to bring fourth a lighthearted atmosphere which reflected the past week perfectly. “we didn’t forget the goggles and the controller did we?” she asks, hopeful eyes met with reassurance that they would do just fine.
“hello! we are the royal court!” the trio greeted, introducing episode five with bright eyes and a playful atmosphere. straightening out the colorful stripes decorating her crop top, kyulkyung pulls at the fabric - shifting her weight on her feet as she waits to introduce herself. she holds her head high and keeps her shimmering lips pulled into a smile when she introduces herself, switching to chinese to begin her introduction per usual. “hello! number 5050, zhou jieqiong here! we prepared something a bit more fun to watch this week, hope you like it!”
a stool is sat center stage while kyulkyung and minho move to their respective ends of the stage - the pair at the end of opposite runways while heejin moves to the center one. the trio had planned this out vigorously, coming up with a cute scenario for their performance that would certainly be entertaining to follow along. it isn’t hard to shift into the atmosphere of their routine, a naturally bubbly woman living for a song and performance as creative as theirs.
this week was vastly different than what she had shown with suwoong last week, and kyulkyung loved keeping everyone on their toes. what side of her would she show next? the mgas proved to be an excellent place for her to experiment the different sides of her dancing persona, the perfect platform to receive feedback and grow based on that. while last week seemed to have some mixed reviews, she cannot wait to show the her that she felt most comfortable in.
heejin’s walks towards the stool where their makeshift VR headset rests along with a controller, the “announcer’s” voice following shortly after.
JEON HEEJIN, SELECT A SONG TO CONTINUE
and so their performance begins - the song mashup turning up as kyulkyung and minho begin to slowly move up and down as characters do in the selection menu. she attempts a cute pose to match her song, bboom bboom’s bubbly lyrics and music bringing forth the darling in her.
“what are you doing? that’s my song that’s playing.” she speaks out, throwing on a pout and crossing her arms as she stares across the runway at minho, who counters with a no, it’s my song. she chose yours last time! before they’re rushing towards center stage.
지금 내 눈엔 눈엔 눈엔
네 어깨 무릎 발 (oh)
숨이 탁 막힐 것 같아 난 너만 보면
there were a lot of new experiences for kyulkyung this week. alongside relying on acting a bit more this week and usage of props, the woman was finally showcasing her singing on the show. the fact was exciting, but at the same time she couldn’t help but fear the reactions. she wasn’t a bad singer by any means, and most of her vocals this week were prerecorded anyways, but still, what if it’s worse than what everyone was expecting?
the thought worried her, but in all honesty, she didn’t care. the woman wasn’t a singer by any means; dancing was her overall best talent and the skill she always relied most on. but she had read comments of wanting something different and new besides all the dancing and what better way to show it? this week she was accompanied by heejin who arguable had one of the best voices on the show and minho who not only had a decent voice but knew how to perform with it as well. in all honesty, she had a bit of an advantage this week learning from them ( especially considering the fact that she was in no way embarrassed to ask for help ).
숨이 콱 막힐 것 같아 넌
the concept they went with was a bit easier skill wise than what she was used to, but was definitely more on the creative side. it was performances like this that she enjoyed best - loving being able to follow along with a story and watch the talent that matched it. heejin was playing a video game and kyulkyung and minho were the characters too busy fighting for her attention, wanting to be picked so they were constantly competing with one another. it was a bit ironic given their current situation, but nonetheless it was fun to perform.
because we’ve found our destiny - the two songs link up here, the two dancers pulling heejin into the game and taking her goggles and controller from her. up until this point, the other girl had been singing, contemplating her choice between minho and kyulkyung as they danced for her attention. as they tug her closer, she manages to pull the younger girl closer to her side - pushing minho out of the way and getting her to dance to bboom bboom with her.

my 눈눈눈눈눈눈 눈빛
쏟아지는 my 터터터터터터 터치
하나뿐인 my 럽럽럽럽럽 my luver
내 머리부터 뿜뿜
내 발끝까지 뿜뿜 뿜뿜 어
the two girls’ voices blend so well together, the soft tones complementing the song nicely as they dance together. kyulkyung’s character tries her best to make heejin forgot about minho and his stupid song because hers is so much better ( and definitely more fun ). this is the part where kyulkyung’s live vocals can finally be heard, not wanting to push it too much this week and instead relying more on prerecorded vocals for the characters - allowing heejin to take that spotlight but also giving her a chance to dance when they all come together.
이 모든 건 우연이 아니니까
minho manages to sneak up on the dancing pair, coming back into the frame as he pushes kyulkyung out of the way to begin dancing with heejin. at first, kyulkyung appears shocked but she just steps to the side and watches until the other girl notices minho had taken her place. the two meet eyes, confused and bewildered before they shrug. and finally the trio begins to dance together, letting that competition die and slowly bring their performance to an end.

their performance ends and kyulkyung is catching her breath, smiling as always and feeling like she’s on top of the world. the adrenaline from their routine is slowly simmering down, but all she can think about is the satisfaction of a fun performance.
yang.ji02 i will smile even if it hurts! i’m sorry to everyone who believed in me, i will do better next time. please support #5011, #5017, #5028, #5030, #5033, #5039, #5041, they’re my picks~ i’m sad that so many of my friends were eliminated... but they did their best and i will always support them!
it felt unbelievable to her that she was once again sitting in this situation-- being interviewed like this while waiting for the results. she felt blessed to be in this positon, as she sat down she had no idea what kind of questions they could ask but the had a feeling still-- when the staff member opened their mouth, the first question had her looking conflicted.
what did you think of the results last week?
“last week,” her eyes shifted as she remembered how jeongin had gotten eliminated, “i was filled with many different emotions, jeongin got eliminated but me and daniel oppa made it, so i was happy and sad at the same time,” yeji nodded slowly, “i feel blessed ot be in this position again-- but seing eliminations happen, was hard regardless of how close i was with everyone.”
who do you think is the best under each skill?
after yeji had managed to gather her emotions from the previous question she lifted her gaze and listened to the interviewer, “the best? under each skill?” yeji’s eyes widened, this could be a controversial topic-- “oh, i think that lee chaeryeong’s dancing ability is really good, i was impressed and she’s so young too. so i think her for the girls, for the males-- isn’t taeyang oppa impressive? his choreos are so good, i had to pick my jaw up from the floor.” yeji chuckled and smiled-- call her biased but to her, out of the boys taeyang was the best dancer. “for rappers-- i have to mention changbin oppa-- he’s so confident when he raps and he has a lot of swag, doesn’t he?” yeji did want to mention hansol as well-- but she didn’t want to give anyone the opportunity to connect them. he was so happy about going through-- having a goal, yeji didn’t want to be an obstacle, “for the females... choi yoona? her rap was really powerful? i didn’t thinkt that a girl could have that aura while rapping, honestly.” yeji grabbed her chin between her index finger and thumb, thinking about who to pick for vocals-- “there are so many good vocals, ahhh... i think jeon heejin’s voice and yuri’s voice, they are nice, hyojin and kyungsoo for the males for sure.”
were there any performances you liked?
yeji felt like she had talked for a long time already when talking about who she thought were best under each skill, now she got to talk about the performances she liked-- “well, let me talk to you about kyungsoo’s performance of toxic-- i didn’t know i needed that until he sang it and his voice. so good,” yeji nodded excitedly, “also-- taeyang oppa, of course-- i should stop talking about him already i know but-- have you seen him dance? his performance this time was good, all around the world good!” yeji pondered for a couple of more seconds, “also yuri’s performance-- i’m glad i bugged her about applying, her voice is really out here like that.”
there was a moment of silence before she suddenly opened her mouth again before the next question could pop out, "ryujinnie's performance, it was really charming and different from what she usually does. its nice to see her challenge herself like that.”
is there anyone that disappointed you today?
it was another sensitive topic-- yeji had made a couple of notes to herself and well, “the one that danced to psy’s daddy-- suwoong ssi? i liked his performance but-- having fun is important but he isn’t showing how good he is. he’s showing how much fun he has? i wonder if he can dance or if he is taking it as a joke,” yeji felt pensive thinking about it, “i wish he had shown his serious side, the other contestants are taking this seriously after all.”
