Good to have a nice walk and sunset over Papercourt marshes after a rather gloomy start to 2021 in the SE that summed up a lack of New Year celebrations, the low of finally leaving the EU, and being in Tier 4 with a chaotic and confused leadership always days behind making the decisions that are needed. As one head teacher said, it is like being led by Dad's Army! The good news has to be the Oxford vaccine, but how long before it has the impact we all want. Waverley Abbey. First settled next to the River Wey in 1128 it was the first Cistercian monastery in England. Much was rebuilt after severe flooding in the 13th century and it was finally demolished with the dissolution of the power and influence of the monasteries by Henry VIII in 1536. Some of the stones were used in the construction of Waverley Abbey House, that stands today on the other side of the river. Great light to get pictures of remians Newark Priory, next to the River Wey near Ripley and Pyrford. Built from around 1189, it was finally demolished in the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII c1538, along with Chertsey Abbey Henry VIII had his motives with the split with Rome and many at the time, with the reformation, were happy to see their demise since they had so much wealth and power (especially Chertsey Abbey). Some pictures of the River Wye near Town Lock Weybridge on the Wey navigation canel and the nearby River Wey. Years ago (1971, c14?) one of my first adventures was kayaking the length of the River Wey in the Sea Scouts where we camped overnight and lugged the kayaks around some of shallows and wiers. I've taken some time out to myself since I came back from Norway processing everything that I did in Norway and all the lovely people I met. It surely has set me up good for the hard autumn ahead. Lots of good memories that I will focus on ahead and the qualms and thought processes I had from my trip I've now had time to deal with in my own way so I again can focus on the positiveness I'm trying to find in everyday. But I also are aware there will be hard day's ahead so if you're struggling with things don't ever let anyone tell you to snap out of it cause only you know how things really are. Take time out for you, talk with someone you trust if you feel that helps you and you'll come out stronger. If anyone wants to talk I'm always here no matter how big or little the problem is ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Mike and I have been walking quite a bit since we got back from Norway and tonight's walk was asking the river Wey here in Surrey. It's a heatwave here right now with temperatures in the late 30s so I'm roasting 🔥🔥 It's cooler in the evenings but still around 25-26 degrees Celsius so hot hot hot. But look at the colours of the sunset tonight 😍 It was stunning! So relaxing and tranquil and hardly a soul out either.
