I just found her, I love her, and I'm saving her. Avon is a GWR "River" class 2-4-0, which were designed by William Dean built between 1895 and 1897. Nominally they were rebuilds of eight earlier 2-2-2s built by Daniel Gooch, but only the boilers were from the old engines, and thise had been recently fitted. In real life Avon was withdrawn in 1907 and scrapped (pls excuse me while I go sob) while the last of the class was scrapped in 1918. In my Au? Avon was bought by a little known welsh railway called the Uman and Din Light Railway.
