i was planning to draw yuko/espen and marysue today but that holiday picture….. erm well that just happened🤣

Uncle Joe is my friend. He’s Vatti’s friend. Uncle Joe can’t hear or see anymore because he got hurt but I try to be friends. I always say hi and he can’t hear but I try. I think he knows that I’m there though because when I see him he smiles a little bit like he used to. I like it when he smiles because he doesn’t smile a lot anymore.

Sometimes he smiles when Vatti and Mae are close to him. I wish they talked to him but they usually don’t.

Mae prays about him sometimes. One time she did and Uncle Joe stood behind her and kept wiping his eyes from crying but it was because he was happy. I was scared because I thought he would get blood on the carpet but it just stayed on his eyes and face and sleeves.

Vatti is sick again. He cries and shakes a lot more now. Sometimes he gets mad. One time he broke a dish with a flower on it. Sometimes it scares me but he’s not mean to us. He’s just sad because I think he saw Uncle Joe get hurt like Vatti’s soldier friends got hurt.

People don’t know that Uncle Joe didn’t go to any of the heavens - not the Cambodia one or the French one. I don’t know why he didn’t because he was always nice. Maybe it’s because he knows that Vatti is sick again. I think that makes Uncle Joe sad. I think he wants to talk but can’t. I want to help and whenever I think about that he nods his head without looking at me.

I remember how Uncle Joe used to say that anyone could do anything if they tried really hard. Sometimes I tell Uncle Joe to try (just in my head because I don’t want to scare anyone). I think he knows what I mean because his eyebrows get wrinkled when I say that.

Last night, I gave him some paper and a crayon and put it on the kitchen table. Uncle Joe stood next to it and didn’t see it. “It’s a crayon. Draw what you feel,” I said in my head. (That’s what my teachers say.)
