erica garner: a trailblazer
the daughter of the late Eric Garner, the man choked to death by police, has died today of a heart attack after going into a coma. she was only 27. and in those few years, she was able to make a lasting impression with her work on the #blacklivesmatter movement. her name will never be forgotten amid all the people we lost in 2017. she was known for staging aΒ βdie-inβ at the same location her father pleaded the words,Β βi canβt breatheβ. there, she left her mark on the world. there, protestors layed for seven minutes. the amount of time eric garner was being choked. at a time where black people were being choked by society, erica fought back for her father and for the next generation of black people to come. she paved a path for activists, a path we would all walk to a time for change. so letβs pour one for her tonight so she wonβt go gently into that good night. never forget her.Β -s
