I usually don't like blaming other characters for things that have happened but honestly agree that Trystan and Rose were partly responsible for what had happened. I understand Rose didn't want to meet up with Bas in case he tries something (although they could've brought Luke or Ruby to keep guard) but that's the only thing I don't hold against them. They had barely any reason to believe Bas was the murderer. Half of the Thorne siblings had lied about their alibi (including Lydea, twice, since Astrid wasn't at the opera during the murder) but Bas is suspicious because... Maybe he loved Juliana? And that's it? And if they really thought Bas was about to murder someone then they should've tried harder for keep an eye on him. If Bas was the murderer then they'd still have failed to protect the person from being murdered, which had been their entire plan. It's so annoying because I really loved both of them in book 1 but they're awful at this entire investigation. I can't even be mad at the queen for wanting to fire Rose
Hi Nonny,
I completely agree. I don't typically like blaming others either. I think this is the first time I've taken a stance like this, but there are so many things that if done differently could have prevented another murder.
And yes, I absolutely agree, that if Bas was the murderer, losing him could still have left blood on their hands because had Bas murdered someone while they were not doing their job, that's still on them.
Leaving Bas alone was the wrong call on so many levels. I almost wish that if you skipped the diamond scene Bas didn't die. I feel the actions of going off to hook up while you are awaiting news on a murder case is just poor form and should have had direct consequences to the case. But many of the Trystan diamond scenes have been poorly placed this book. Like the fantasy in Lydea's bedroom. So weird. Not the time. Not the place.
I think Rose and Trystan got off easily with the queen. If I were Eveline I would have made the King do something if my child was murdered because they couldn't do their job.
LITERALLY they're like "what's the most convoluted way to bring back characters the audience loves so the season isn't just Tiff and a baby" and they went uhhh...lamifex is there....because....old school bad.... can't go there cause of......fire maybe?? And then they remembered they didn't ruin one (1) old gen character so they dug up Basile's dead body and propped him up so he can be that cool 40 year old that hangs out in every high school
