Just fucking around but if you establish that sex is more of a social thing than biological, then there's chance they would enjoy the thrills they got from doing forbidden/risky stuff aka touching each other bc god they will literally fucking break apart. They might as well see it as a form of special intimacy, assume that the gems are the same type and hardness. It's a special bond when the two don't break when they touch each other in a rough way, such as chrysoberyl rawing alex's ass in the hallway or something on that level of stupid. Also it's established in canon when rutile hit jade with a hammer that gems can feel something due to magical reason, maybe it's resonance, maybe it's the initial impact, who knows. So wouldn't it be possible that gems would enjoy the friction or the vibrations when they grind against each other?

we've all theorized on how conservative and dangerous the gems society is and on how this war was the result of the lunarians' (I don't wanna say just Aechema's cause they're all responsible to some extent) selfishness.

but I think bort got a couple things right:

- the fact that phos wanted to believe the lunarians, at least to some extent. they were tired, they had lost two partners and so much of themselves already. they were hungry for answers and aechmea was there, providing them freely and readily. how convenient. and yet those explanations made sense and fed on phos' own suspicions and insecurities about sensei

Padpa said that they didn't want rutile to try to fix them since they think they are a burden. I think when phos brought Padpa to the moon they probably thought they were doing both a favor but I guess that wasn't the case. I think that Padpa was thankful for that because they no longer are a burden like they thought they were

Pad is very smart and very old. I think they feel the futility of the gems way of life more acutely than everyone else. They were basically on board with Phos's plan when they talked for ten minutes way back when. They reason they 'changed sides' so quickly was because they saw no other way forward to stop all the gems from being picked off by the moon people.

Probably off-topic and a little biased, but I sort of understand what padpa is coming from. They were an extremely capable gem that was reduced to a useless rock in a box. Wanting rutile to stop assembling them is pretty much asking to be euthanized if they were mortal. From padpa's perspective, they have nothing else to lose. They don't even know if they're really fixed. For them, the future is uncertain. It's understandable that they would want to use whatever's left of their life to make a change and end this pointless war altogether.

veeery nice additions, the thought of no longer being a burden to Rutile definitely influenced Padpa’s behavior after coming to the moon. I also really like the idea that, due to their old age, they would be on board with basically anything that would break with the monotony or with the usual (and unsuccessful) way of doing things, because it’s something that we’ve also seen Yellow and Aechmea struggle with, along with all the moon people. 

We didn’t even get to talk to her, it’s a travesty.
