An idea if you will:

Millenia ago long before the reign of Pariah Dark there was Good King Lazarus, the King who Cried. King Lazarus cried in order to pour out all of his negative emotions, which turn allowed him to rule fairly and kindly and that good stuff. His tears essentially created several "lakes" in the Infinite Realms. To ghosts these lakes were kinda like parks with ponds. You go to hang out and relax but dont go in the water. The Tears of Lazarus relaxed ghosts because they emanated his will and desire to be good to and for his people. But caused extreme sadness if you took a dip in the tears.

Over time and as his reign came to an end and his tears no longer flowed, these lakes started shrinking. Getting smaller and smaller and some of them even disappearing. Some of them had been destroyed by Pariah Dark. This was seen as a great loss in the Realms. Turns out they had seeped into the living realm and formed pools over there.

Enter Ra's al Ghul who discovered these pools and found that they woke the dead and prolonged life. He claimed the pools for himself and named Lazarus pits.

Because humans arent meant to be interacting with ectoplasm, and especially not King Lazarus' Tears, they cause bouts of severe and uncontrollable rage in any humam exposed to them.
