YES KIDDOS THAT IS A REAL THING THAT ACTUALLY FUCKING HAPPENED. it happened after sheriff stilinski was kidnapped by jennifer (or maybe before, from like, a trailer? did any of the trailers show/hint at the sheriff being kidnapped?) so people were like OH MY GOD THE SHERIFF IS A VIRGIN THAT'S WHY THE DARACH TOOK HIM, saying that stiles was adopted or that claudia had an affair or just making up ALL THESE WILD ASS THEORIES and that was a thing that happened and it amazes me everyday.

It wasn't that Dan was afraid of thunder, per se. It was more that the thunder reminded him of explosions and gunfire, and of fast-moving dust-storms that filled his lungs and obscured his vision, and it made him think of loss, and that in turn made him think of losing Gabbie, and that was one of his worst fears, that she'd realize she was living with a former soldier turned physics teacher who had problems with bloody thunder, of all things.

So, yeah. He wasn't afraid of it, but he didn't like it. Austin had it's fair share of thunderstorms, and he'd known that moving there. It wasn't a crippling fear, or even a hindrance to his life. If a thunderstorm rolled in over the course of a morning and he wasn't teaching, he'd just move inside and start grading papers with his headphones up at full volume, or he'd start working on the paperwork for the weapons-grade arms Gabbie wanted for their next Slow-Mo Guys, or calling local stores to see if they had the supplies Gabbie needed for an RT life.

It was when the thunderstorms happened in the late evening or the night that it bothered him.

One particularly bad thunderstorm started brewing in eastern New Mexico, steadily moving its way towards Austin in a swirling mass of updraft and rain.

Gabbie had hauled him to bed, and worn him out in the way only Gabbie could, now, and he'd mostly been able to fall asleep, forgetting about the storm entirely.

Except now it was raging outside, and he could hear the roll of thunder, the sound of lightning not too far away. He contemplated getting up and working on the quizzes he really should have graded a few days ago, but Gabbie was spooning him from behind, her legs tangled with his, and she was enough of a light sleeper she'd certainly notice him getting up.

He thought long enough that Gabbie noticed anyways. She nosed at the back of his neck, lips tickling against his skin. "It's late, Dan," she mumbled, and squirmed until she was more settled, his fingers loosely ringing her wrist. "Get some sleep."
