You know, every now and then I wondered how you were so productive... I think I found out and I'm not sure it's worth it
NGL at this point sometimes it’s just to enjoy peoples’ reactions :D
So, for a long time I couldn’t drink anything more caffeinated than a Diet Coke, because I had a minor medical condition that would cause me to get super bad headaches if I had too much caffeine. I had the condition fixed about ten years ago, but because I didn’t drink coffee or non-herbal tea for most of my twenties, I never really developed a taste for coffee, and I’m a morning person so I rarely need the caffeine.
But it occurred to me a few years ago that I could drink caffeine now, and that in the mornings that might once in a while be super helpful. So on days when I’m struggling to pay attention to, well, everything, or on evenings when I’ll be up later than usual, I mix up the diet-coke-and-coffee brew and go to town.
For me, the fact that it’s mostly Diet Coke covers the bitterness of the coffee, while the jolt of caffeine from the coffee is sufficient to get me going. I actually quite like the taste at this point. It’s mostly sweet with a little edge, like dark chocolate. The foam is very sweet and creamy, like milk foam on a latte.
I used to make it with coffee from the work coffeepot, iced and poured into a mug of soda. Now I just buy cans of iced coffee from the bodega and use those. I’ve found that Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso Salted Caramel is ideal both in terms of flavor and caffeine content, and one can will last me through 3-4 beverages.
If you regularly drink coffee it’s easy enough to give it a try -- just pour a bit of soda into a small cup, add a dash of coffee, and sip away.
