Hopping back on track with the 31 Day Study Challenge! I totally spaced on doing this the last couple of days, so here are days 3-6.
3. Studying Methods. What is your method of study? Most of my academic career I have been a legendary procrastinator/crammer. This is still a habit I’m trying to break. In the past I’ve mostly just reread the relevant textbook chapters and my notes trying to memorize as much as possible. On the rare occasion I would get my life together in time, I would try and do flashcards as well.
4. Reteach. What is something you learned today? I’m Native American, but when I was around 8 years old I moved off the reservation to live with my grandparents. Because of that, I lost out on the opportunity to be fully immersed in my Native culture like my siblings. Today, for my American Literature class, I read a story from the Seneca people about the origin of stories. Prior to reading the story I knew that it was common to lay down tobacco in nature before praying, however the story I read today talked about how a great cliff asked a boy for a gift of tobacco in exchange for stories. I never knew where this practice came from, and my tribe’s origin story could very well be different, but I thought this was cool nonetheless.
5. Self Love. How do you treat yourself to relax? There are a lot of things I do to relax and unwind after a lot of busy and stressful times with classes. Sometimes I’ll play board games, watch movies, or play video games with my friends. If I’m feeling like I need more solitary time to recharge I’ll listen to music, practice my ukulele, or read.
6. Routine. What is your study routine? Usually when I sit down to study for what I know will probably be a long time I get myself some water, coffee, and some sort of a healthy snack, so that I won’t have to leave my room and potentially get distracted. I’ll usually review my notes from class and rewrite them if I want them to be more organized or as a way to take the information in again. Then I usually reread my textbook chapters, and then make sure to hit key points on any study guides I’ve been given. I feel like my study routine isn’t necessarily great, so if anyone has any tips I am ALL EARS.
