GREY GHOST Well. It's that time of year. The time of year that foodies such as myself come to look forward to as if it was a national holiday. And that my friends, is restaurant week! Detroit Restaurant Week to be exact. Those who know me personally know that I had a terrible experience last year due to false advertising. Basically, some websites were promoting a 2016 Detroit Restaurant Week. But alas, upon arriving at the restaurant of choice, I learned that there was indeed no restaurant week that was happening and that the information on the websites was inaccurate. Imagine my dissapointment. -_- But 2017 is here, and with it, a new Detroit Restaurant Week. (For real this time) I unfortunately, am not able to visit all of the restaurants that are participating this year. But believe you me! I would if I could! This will be my second visit to Grey Ghost. I visited last year within their first couple weeks of opening and had a great time. Which is really saying something considering most new openings usually stumble and fall flat on their faces for the first month or so. Yet another addition to the ever expanding Midtown, Grey Ghost is tucked down a small side street off of John R. Parking is limited to street parking, so you may have to drive around a bit. We got lucky this particular visit. The first time we just walked after a Tigers game. (I would say it's about a 20 minute walk from Comerica Park) We had an early reservation. They open at 4pm most days. Except on weekends when they do brunch. I would love to check it out soon! Apparently they have a dynamite pastry chef in house that comes in every weekend. ^oo^ Ok. Now let me explain to you guys how restaurant week works. Participating restaurants come up with a specific restaurant week menu. Which you have to ask for upon arriving at your restaurant of choice. Most are three courses. Some are four. But you choose each of your courses from your choices for a set price. There are two price brackets. $39 and $29 for at least three courses. Drinks are not included. Grey Ghost is in the $39 price bracket. Now. Moving on to the good stuff. The food! The two first course choices are the gold yukon bisque and honey roasted carrots. I've got to be honest. My bisque was probably the best soup I've ever had. I loved the presentation despite the photo up top. First, they brought me a bowl with these little fried balls of deliciousness on the bottom that were smothered in cheese. But no soup! But then our server brought over a glass milk bottle that the bisque was actually in and poured it over top. I wish I would have known he was gonna do that so I could have gotten a better shot! But all is well. It went straight into my belly. It was so good that I didn't want to share! The honey roasted carrots were tasty but my bisque definitely won the first course round. I actually didn't try them because I was unsure if there was nuts on them, but it turned out to be granola. But Ryan did assure me they were good. He is my taste tester sometimes in instances where I can't haha. Next was the main course and I went with the rodeo burger. Excellent. Choice. I mean, sure, yeah, I was starving. But I ate my whole burger. Which is saying something. I loved the toasted bun and the barbecue sauce was great! I like my sauce sweet sweet sweeeeet, and this was just that. I actually liked that I wasn't distracted with a bunch of french fries because it gave me the opportunity to just focus on my burger. Ryan went with the ribs al pastor for his entree. I got to try some this time and just like everything else, they were great! The meat was literally falling off the bone, which is how they should be! They were spicy because of the kimchi, but I like a little bit of heat. But if you don't like spicy foods, then this dish isn't for you. Dessert was banana pudding. I love banana pudding! Not as much as my boyfriend does. He would probably bathe in banana pudding if he could. It's the only dessert that he gets excited about except ice cream. So I knew he would be happy about dessert for once. I'm a dessert girl. I always have room for something sweet. But what usually ends up happening is I order and then I eat it by myself lol. Which is fine, more for me I guess. Our banana pudding had its own twist with the vanilla wafers that actually came in the shape of croutons. By the end of dinner, I was stuffed. Some people complain about portion sizes during restaurant week, but I have no complaints about that here at all. I left stuffed. As did Ryan. We walked back to our car satisfied and looking forward to another restaurant week adventure this weekend..... stay tuned!! www.detroitrestaurantweek.com
