That if you get Dean down to his most essential self, without the memories that tell him he has to repress his true nature, that he has to perform a certain view of masculinity, he would behave the way we see him in regarding Dean.

And they chose. In that episode. In a moment specifically representing Dean experiencing true freedom just once.

The bar is a manifestation of Dean’s happy place- somewhere he can be content so he wont rebel against AU!Michael.  

Part of his happy place is being secure in the knowledge that Daphne, the object of his childhood crush, chooses to be with Fred, a man secure enough to wear an ascot, rather than constantly performing masculinity. (cont. under the cut)

Canonically - If Dean could live out any fantasy movie plot it would be having an excuse to break gender norms despite usually performing the most masculine menman tropes that ever did menman.

We’re all rightfully focused on the more recent seasons and obvious Destiel main plots right now, and that’s perfectly understandable.  I just want to revive a thought from the Kripke Era tho.

On the surface for a straight general audience this is a classic buddy bro movie, but no guys. Porky’s II is a bunch of guys putting on ‘a mid summer night’s dream’ and constantly making excuses for being dressed up as fairies until even the most masculine one embraces it and is changed into a female fairy on stage. The movie Dean, and Supernatural, chose is filled with men posturing as manly men even as they enjoy things coded as feminine who eventually publicly embrace them.

Season 7. 2011. This was SO. LONG AGO.

Castiel was dead for the second time. (3 if you want to count times Dean thought he was dead) and Dean knows every word regardless of the fact that this song violates Dean's 1979 rule.
