The sun was shining. The birds were chirping, and Snape was seething. For once, he looked impeccably clean. His dark hair was almost fluffy. James snorted every time he saw him. Sirius, on the other hand, yelled across the classroom. “Oi, Snape, your hair is looking luscious. Did you replace your normal haircare products with a bottle of Sleekeazy’s?”
Snape had waited until they were out of earshot of Professor Flitwick to confront them.
“I know it was you,” he got right in Sirius’s face, backing off when Remus came to stand behind him and put a protective hand on Sirius’s shoulder, Moony glinting in his eyes.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Sirius said, his voice sounding so innocent that even James thought for a second he didn’t know.
“The rodents you let loose in my dormitory,” Snape hissed.
“Rodents? Your dormitory?” Sirius asked, playing dumb.
“Yes! You snuck into the Slytherin common room and let them loose!” Snape spat, his eyes darting around all of them.
“Hand on my heart, I didn’t have anything to do with it,” Sirius said solemnly.
“I don’t need rodents to do my dirty work,” Remus huffed, as though offended that Snape would think him capable of that. “If it were me, I’d make sure it was worse than that,” His eyes flashed gold again, and Snape took another half step away from him. He glared at James next. James held up his hands.
“Regulus won’t even tell me the password. Believe me, I’ve tried to get it out of him, but he is adamant that we’re not getting in, so the Slytherin dormitories are safe from us.” A glint of something clicking into place shone in his eyes. He turned away from them before even asking Peter if he knew anything. The four of them shared a look. The plan had worked perfectly, and now they could control what happened next.
