Based on the four-door Renault 12, the 17 coupe (a.k.a. R17) was introduced for the 1972 model year, and the Gordini edition appeared for 1974. This example from the final year of production is finished in black and features pillarless side windows, a power-operated roll-back cloth roof section, Talbot Berlin Aardvark side mirrors, and a rear hatchback. The stock bumpers have been removed, and a French-market nose clip has been installed. Equipment includes reclining front seats with adjustable leg rests, manual side windows, and a rear defroster. The cargo cover beneath the hatchback houses 6×9 speakers. The type 807 1,647cc inline-four was rated to produce 95 horsepower and 90 lb-ft of torque for the US market when new, and power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.
