Tw: nightmare description
(This is set before Darius is on the side of Luz and others, so heâs still sort of an antagonist)
Darius sat up in his bed, it was a nice bed, sure. Comfy, and had what it needed. You know, pillows, blankets, sheets, etc. But at the same time it felt wrong and empty. Darius was tired, heâd spent all day cleaning up a mess after a disaster during one of the coven meetings that occurred. He remembered how many guards had been flung about and how Belos had spoken in disapproval.
Laying back, Darius looked at the ceiling, recounting more of what he had seen. Splatters of abomination goo, shards of illusion magic, weeds from plants wrapping around the pillars, rampaging palisman escaping. It wasnât until Darius caught wind of guards shouting in the chaos and confusion that he learned that Luz, Hunter, and the others had broken in to rescue captured palisman and save them from Belos.
Darius was surprised that Hunter turned on them, sure, but he also found himself thinking that their deeds were heroic, but that didnât make it any less work for him. Darius groaned and rolled over, tired. He watched the stars outside his window as he cursed the high being that there was for not being able to sleep. Until he did.
Darius found himself in a dark cave, walking. Much like the one Luz and Hunter had been in in âHollow Mindâ. Pictures of a small child and what appeared to be his older brother flashed through the walls. As Darius went on, the pictures became more violent, slashed and horrific.
Darius heard whispers all around him but couldnât decipher them, he clutched his head, it hurt. The half part picture people started to jump out and come towards him, he tried to activate his abomination magic. Nothing, the goo just fell flat. Darius ended up having to wrestle his way free and ended up continuing down the cave, the ground was uneven and broke, leaving him to that falling feeling.
suddenly he stopped, something cold hit his back, hands. Large ones, he glanced around and realized he was in the hands on Belos. And suddenly he was much smaller, much much smaller. The Belos line fragment gurgled and spoke; âwhat a fine palisman..this will suffice..â
Darius awoke with a start, sweating and with a death grip on his blankets. He kicked them, trying to untangle himself. He couldnât explain why he was scared, heâd seen Belos before. He was shaking.
âWhat was that?â Darius breathed, trying to calm down. He rocked himself but it wasnât doing much.
âMaybe Bunny will help me feel better..â he mumbled to himself, slipping out of bed.
He moved the bean bag and hugged the soft purple rabbit close and popped his pacifier in his mouth, the comfort he was expecting was there but not as prominent. Bunny gave him something to do with his hands and his pacifier helped him breathe through his nose. Darius was slipping, but he didnât care. Darius continued to stroke Bunnyâs ears and rock himself, still scared and still slightly paranoid.
Cursing himself for the fuzzy feelings, he decided to check outside his door. He raised an eyebrow when he saw someone, he shoved his rabbit and pacifier aside.
âRaine?â He questioned
âDarius? Whatâre you doing awake? Itâs past midnightâ the voice answered
Darius couldnât answer, he was ashamed. He shuffled and looked at his feet, only slightly pushing past his door would give way to Bunny and the pacifier sitting on his desk.
âIâm on patrol, Belos said it was my turn to do night patrol. Still tired from earlier?â Rains asked, coming into view
All Darius could do to not ask Raine to come in and make the bad thoughts go away was nod, he fidgeted uncertainly. âLet me guess though, having trouble with it?â Raine continued, with that all too familiar, all too smug, all too knowing looking and gentle way of asking.
Another curt nod, before Darius knew what was happening, he was gently ushered back into his room by Raine. Bunny was placed back in his arms and the pacifier was put close to him as well.
Now, Darius wouldnât describe Raine as motherly, or fatherly, or even caregiver material, but he had to admit that they made him feel fuzzy and kid-like.
Raine pulled the blankets up around Darius, and sat on the edge of his bed.
âTuck Bunny in too?â Darius asked quietly
âYes, Iâll tuck Bunny in tooâ Raine chuckled, adjusting the blankets again
âRaine?â
âYes?â
âI feel fuzzy..and..and..â
âScared?â
âHowâd you know?â
âWell, youâve got that look on your face Dee, and youâre holding Bunny really tightâ
âHe doesnât mind..â
âWhat happened?â
âWhy do I feel so..small Raine?â
âDonât avoid the question, Dariusâ
âI had a nightmare, okay? I donât wanna talk about itâ Darius huffed, trying to hold back sniffles instead
âTake your pacifier Darius, itâll help with your breathing. There you go..â
Darius did as instructed, and it did help. But he couldnât shake the feeling of clawing at him or the stares.
âI just wanâ it to go âway..â he mumbled
âIt will, I promise,â Raine said, ânothingâs gonna get you, youâre super strong Darius. And..Bunny will protect youâ
âYou sure..?â
âI promise, now try to sleep. Iâm sure youâve got a big day tomorrow..â
âBut..what if it happened again?â
âThen come find me, Iâll be around. Youâre okay Darius, it was just a dreamâ
âOkayâŠnight Nonnie..â
Raine grinned, it was the first nickname a regressed Darius had ever given them. Theyâd be sure to be there for Darius, as a Nonnie. It was awkward, it was scary, and it was sweet. What Darius and Raine had in moments like this, couldnât be described as a caregiver and regressor, but more so two witches finding their way in life on the Boiling Isles.
