NOTE: To the anon who requested this, I am so sorry it took me so long to get to this. Takes place during season two, after the mission with the glandus kids. This may not be good cause I’m a little sick but this task was on my mind. Short, sorry. Not checked for typos
Regressor: Gus (toddler-young kid), Mattholomule (young-older kid)
Gus and Mattholomule had a quirky relationship to say the least, from being enemies who would flat out argue to friends who could poke fun at each other. After parties and scattered human objects the two seemed to form a bond that was well enough. But of course that too, had its ups and downs. It was complicated to the least.
Gus swiveled in the wildly growing red grass outside of Hexsides steps. He was currently waiting for his dad to come get him after finishing classes, but his mind was elsewhere. What would he be showing at the next human associated club? Luz and Matty had shown him a couple of things but he was still fiercely set in being the leader and human expert. Gus loved human things, the small and big, the slimy and smooth, the adventurous and dangerous. However, he couldn’t quite explain why some of it made him feel small. He didn’t complain but he recognized that it was the same as when he would play with his action figured or with Luz and the gang. He kicked his foot up and sat up in frustration when he realized he didn’t have anything to show, and the meeting was tomorrow.
Gus supposed he could borrow something from Luz but he didn’t want to do that unless he had to. Gus imagined the various things he had in his room at home, figuring he could pass his Beefy Bob as a human toy, as it wasn’t a very commonly known toy in the Boiling Isles. He knew it would have to do, as he remembered that after that meeting he’d have a flyer derby game to play with Willow and the rest of his team mates later. His thoughts were interrupted when-
A bag was launched at Gus, hitting him in the chest followed by curling giggles. Gus got his wits back and set the bag beside him. Mattholomule.
“What was that for, dude?” Gus huffed.
“No reason. Drama,” answered Mattholomule, twirling around.
Gus huffed once more but recognized the childlike cheekiness that Mattholomule was displaying. Regression. He saw crumpled up drawings almost jumping out of Mattholomule’s bag, he’d regressed in class and kept to himself, drawing and taking notes.
“Please tell me you’re gonna bring more, what did Luz call them? Stickers?” Matt continued
“To what? The meeting?” Gus went on
“Duh. Unless I get to wear the crown and be the prince”
And just like school boys, Gus and Mattholomule ended up wrestling on the grass. Both slipping, and Matt taking advantage of it.
“Pinned ya! I win. This is why I should be leader” Matt proudly announced, holding Gus down.
“Lemme go!” Gus whined
“That you what, suck your thumb?”
Cue another round of wrestling and rolling in the grass, hair pulling, kicking and all.
“Uh, guys?” another voice interrupts
“What’re you guys still doing here?” Luz asked, sitting with them in the grass
“Making Gus say I’m the best!”
Luz chuckled, recognizing the fun and gentle rough play. She and King did a lot of the same.
“Yeah. I’m waiting for Eda too. She’s a little late but that okay, gives me time to make sure you two don’t butt heads”
“Mm. I’m Gus and I’m a dork”
“Luz, make Matty shut up!”
The two boys were now getting huffy as toddlers who needed to be put down for naps. Poking each other and making faces at each other, Luz couldn’t help but giggle as they all waited together. The boys, slipping but safe, started trying to one up each other getting sillier and sillier. Luz just happened to be the stand in carer to keep them from wandering off or knocking each other into a tree, but laughing her butt off as she did.
“I’m Matty and I have to be dramatic to be important. Bleh, bleh, bleh,” Gus went on, putting his hair down to appear like Matt
“Oh yeah? Well, I’m Gus and I say too many words” he blew a raspberry at Gus whilst doing a dramatic interpretation of how Gus walks
“How about this?,” Luz interrupted, “I’m Gus and great at illusions and Matty, who’s great at construction”
“You know what you two should do?”
“Give Matty a dorky illusion?”
“Give Gus a forehead poke?”
“No sillies, you both should get your actions figures and put on a show for the human associates club, maybe even combine it with the Good Witch Azura Bookclub”
The boys blushed, sort of exposed by the stand in caregiver about regression gear that wasn’t really gear but brought them both back. Gus quivered and Matty rubbed the back of his neck before answering.
“Only if I get to okay Beefy Bob”
“Hey, I wanna be Beefy Bob!”
“You can figure it out later, at least lay in the grass and tell me what kind of magic I can expect from the courses. Pretty please?”
Reluctantly, both of the boys untangled themselves from each other and sat with Luz, babbling as they waited for their pickups. She was not a full time caregiver, but Luz could still appreciate the sweet moments the boys shared. They would settle things and get more comfortable in their regression, with or without the stress. They talked and picked at the grass, Luz teaching them games such as patty cake as they taught her simple things from their years of magic. Their regression wasn’t what she knew, not overly cutesy with tons of gear, not too feminine or babyish, but what was right for them in their magic world. Simple magic, for simple caring. Luz would’ve looked after them until the end of time and they would trusted her for the end of it too, for their regression came out in funny ways but was still random nonetheless. She’d be gentle and just listen to them, even if they had only talked about Beefy Bob for the rest of it.
