04. looking at receiver in long silence before looking away.
β" man, i can't believe how long it took me to get you out of gotham. i told you the view was gonna be good. " and of course it was, in part because conner had agonised for ages about picking a night with good weather and the perfect date spot. only once they'd settled onto the roof of the barn on the kent farm ( clark's recommendation, obviously ), basking in the sunset across the endless kansas sky, could conner actually breathe a sigh of relief.
after all, he wanted - needed - to impress tim, and there was nothing in the city that would do that. this was truly the best he could do that was private, quiet, and ( hopefully ) beautiful. it didn't always feel like home, per se, but conner supposed that sitting there with tim, hugging his knees to his chest as the sun dipped lower beneath the horizon... that was about as close as it got.
he enjoyed soaking up the silence ( no doubt because he could tune out the whistling breeze and buzzing insects in favour of listening to the thump of tim's heartbeat ) as the sky's purple hues turned to blue turned to black, speckled with countless stars that tim had surely never once seen in gotham.
" hey, that's- " conner started, lifting his finger to point up at the sky, but stopped short of actually naming any constellation. just as he'd started to look in tim's direction to make sure he'd actually look, he caught it -- the last split second of a stare before tim hurriedly looked away. it wasn't that he followed conner's point, but that he seemed to be frantically looking for anything else that gave him away.
shy. what a dork. immediately, conner's expression breaks into a giddy grin, and he scoots closer to wrap an arm around tim's shoulders and lean into his space. " what's the matter, is there something on my face? maybe i've got handsome written on my forehead? hmm? "
