Reddit: I Got Banned From r/Feminism Today For This..
So this happened today..
I got permanently banned from r/feminism
Why? No, it’s not what you think..
I didn’t say anything misogynistic or sexist. I wasn’t rude to any of the members and didn’t make any sarcastic or belittling remarks. My contributions to r/feminism were 100% “micro aggression-free.”
What happened then?
I made a completely innocent remark.. that Republicans in the United States who were upset about Afghani women being granted refugee states were in fact only upset because they might end up seeing a few extra headscarfs around – and that it was their Islamophobia that was speaking and not their common sense/sense of humanity.
I thought it was a fairly valid observation? I mean, I could be wrong – but so can anyone. I wasn’t trying to be mean-spirited but was trying to contribute, meaningfully.
My comment was also 100% relevant to the post (tweets from prominent Republicans outraged at Afghani women being granted refugee status in the USA).
When I asked the moderator for an explanation as to why I’d been banned, I was told they had “no interest in speaking to me” and I was muted so I could no longer communicate with them.
Nice.
I guess I thought that as a gay PoC living in the Middle East, they wouldn’t have wanted to silence me as I could have offered a unique perspectiveabout erm.. the Middle East, Islam and the rights of women and the situation with feminism there.
Obviously not.
Feminists from the United States; whether they’re black or white, cis or trans – love nothing more than pretending to be woke.
And pretending that they’re not feminism’s biggest enemy (they totally are) and that they’re not alienating more people from feminism than they draw in – losing more battles than the ones they win.
But I bet, they’ll just call me a “raving misogynist” who is just trying to derail their “movement.”
