How would be my take in reboot Allura
I adore VLD Allura, but just like her original version, I feel she never get the chance to be fully explored. So in my reboot things would like this.
Appearance: I would kept VLD basic design, cause I loved black Allura and I believe she should, at least, be dark skin from now on. So I would change some details like add more African characteristics as thick limps, bulky shape and hair would be more curly. Ah, and her hair would be short, so we can have the best of two worlds: practical haircut and still appreciated her curls.Â
Personality: She wouldn't be so serious and distant most of the time. Actually I think she would be more cheerful, optimistic and confident. She thinks is important for a leader keep the team motivated and make them believe they can do it. But reboot Allura is like a fusion of Anna and Elsa (frozen), so deep down she feel she have to hide her fears and uncertain to keep everyone calm and focus. Â
She is kinda Michael (good place) dealing with mess. Pretend everything is under control but freaking out inside
Background: Well, Altea continue as a destroyed planet. It happened when she was a child (I gonna give more details in another post). But she was sent to a ship with  survivors. So, in my universe, Allura is the princess regent in charge of keep left Altean alive in a giant city-ship (like Macross) while they are hidden from Galra Empire waiting the lions return to them stop to live as fugitives. I think this cool cause it give Allura already a position as leader and previous experience before Voltron arrive. And as royal she already understand things are not black and white, her people are not saint and galras aren't demons as well. She has a mature view about her enemies, that is why she say loud her issues are with Zarkon not with Galra race.
Relationship with Lotor: I already talked about the basis of this relationship in reboot Lotor post. So, some more details. In the beginning, Lotor is in good terms with Zarkon, what means his squad is in charge to capture Voltron. But in the process, Allura will notice he is not so determinate in defeat them. The more encounters they have more she sees his lack of motivation can make him an ally material. And she kinda feel something different in him (I will explain this "chosen thing"better in lions post). He is stoic and suspicious while she is more friendly, strategic and persuasive. Lotor doesn't underestimate her and know she is far for be the naive girl that Zarkon and Sendak think she is. Their friendship have rom-com elements: mutual implication but yet implicit respect and admiration. He quickly learn how to read her and push her to be sincere with him, and mainly, with herself. He is the only person she doesn't mind in show the tired and frustrated face that she is always hidden from paladins. She get the habit to try make him laugh, not a mean or sarcastic laugh, a true laugh. It will be hard but she will accomplish this mission.Â
There are hits  through the serie that she like him more than she should, but she misunderstand his clueless with  disinterest. So typical case of two donkeys in love that think they are unrequested.Â
