Yang vs nurture vs Blake
As we know, Yang pretty much grew up without her mom (abandoned) and step mom (died). Her dad did his best but kept himself busy and was distant. Yang as she says herself had to be strong and pick up the pieces. She raised herself and Ruby for the most part. She had an almost motherly role, a nurturer if you will. This was from a very young age, and it’s pretty much all she has known her entire life. She didn’t allow herself to show anything she would precieve as “weak”. If she wasn’t the strong one would would be? She didn’t have anyone to let the walls down with, that was until.... her future kitty wife came into her life.
Yang let her walls down to Blake. Told her about trying to go find her mother that had left her. She was showing a vulnerable side to help Blake see that they were all worried about her. While she was still nurturing she didn’t have to be strong all the time around Blake. It was different with her. Now let’s go further along to after the fall of Beacon.
Yang loses her arm trying to protect Blake against Adam. Even worse is that Blake left her without a trace. She’s so devestated that she tells Ruby (the sister she loves so damn much) to “just leave me alone.” When Ruby leaves Yang doesn’t even say I love you back to her. She doesn’t allow her sister to be there for her. This will be important later. Now skipping ahead again.
After a talk with her dad and old teachers about everything she listens in to their convo outside. So while overhearing Tai saying he had to take care of things at home. She feels guilty of being a burden. She actually feels guilty about needing to be taken care of by her own father. (Sidenote: I really don’t like that Tai called it “moping” after he saw her have a panic attack from dropping a glass cup she clearly has ptsd dude.) So what does Yang do the next morning?
Just my opinion but she put the arm on TOO EARLY. I fully believe that guilt of having to be looked after made her pretend to be ready for it. Well she trains and gets back out there anyway. I think she had the tremors before Vol.5 but hid it from Tai so he would let her go. One trip to see mom and get back to being there for her sister (where she makes up the I love you) later. Yang is ignoring her own feelings and is “fine” for everyone. That was until a certain name came up...
Blake being talked about sets her off because she’s still so hurt about her leaving. That’s when we get this....
“What if I NEEDED her here for me.” Yang says she needed Blake. Her father and even sister wasn’t enough. She needed the nurturing from Blake. That’s huge. It’s something more with Blake she can’t help it. Also what is Blake doing at this time. She’s learning to nurture to be there for her friends to stop running. She’s growing in the aspects that Yang needs the most from her. She even helps save a friend from going too far the wrong path (Ilia you sweet smol bean I love you).
Now let’s get to more recent times shall we.
This moment. Yang tries to lie about being fine with Blake but can’t and admits she’s not okay. Then Yang actually apologized for seeing Adam (poor baby you don’t have to apologize for that!) Yang is worried that Adam is still out there. (Blake opens up about Adam) Blake sees her tremors for the first time, seeing her personification of strength hurting. She reaches out and hold her prosthetic arm with so much care. Yang actually has Blake there holding her hand telling her she’s not leaving and she’s gonna be there when Adam shows up again. It’s everything Yang needed until “I’ll protect you.” Yang probably saw it as a weakness but Blake just meant it because she cares about her. She allows Blake in but as soon as she deems she’s being seen as weak she rejects it. It will be tough after Blake leaving but Yang has to allow her to be her nurturer. This is the first time she’s had someone that wants to take care of her. I think it’ll work out when they talk it out. They can both be vulnerable with each other and feel comfortable together. Even in their not great state right now they opened up about things they didn’t with others. Yeah this probably didn’t make much sense at all... but I just wanted to talk about bees. Sorry for wasting space on your timeline Also Yang grabbing Blake’s hand to get the hell out was really gay and I loved it. 🐝🖤💛
