For the first time in 6,000 years, European bison are back in the British woodlands.
The Bison have now been in The Blean for just three days.
The Wildwood Trust video above documents the impact these magnificent animals are already having on the local ecosystem. It also details the long term effects these impacts will have on the landscape in the years to come.

Or perhaps the idea of women reconnecting to something outside of themselves. Bodies blending into other things, bodies as other, bodies as containers, re-wilding.
Ellen Rogers, in conversation with Sabina Stent
To all of us who love the outdoors, what if we all stopped burning so much fuel and money running off to the mountains and lakes and lovely bits of near wilderness and turned those resources toward our yards? Toward re-wilding the landscape, toward restoring the horrendously rendered hydrology of the patches of earth we steward. my front yard is divided into four plots. two are by the house, separated by a walkway. then on the other side of the sidewalk are two plots half the size of the ones by the house, separated by a walkway.
in the front two plots i'm planting a rose garden. (motivated by spite.)
in the north plot near the house is a lilac bush, a plum tree, irises, lilies, and hostas.
but the south plot...that's about to be my wildflower "meadow." it's about 100 sq ft. on that side there is a bush with red tube flowers and a hard wood, some viney little yellow flowers, and a perineal that has bulbs of pink flowers that used to be blue by the porch. perfect plot for wildflowers.
my yard has tons of bees and butterflies, moths, katydids and just a ton more native pollinators. put in a wildflower meadow? my vegetable garden is going to go bonkers.
Mow the Grass?
When your grass starts getting high, don’t think, “I need to mow the grass.”
When your grass starts getting high, don’t think, “I need to mow the grass.”Instead, think, “My bio-diverse natural wildlife habitat is doing nicely.” Please give some thought to leaving at least part of your yard in its natural state with no mowing or application of chemicals. This is especially important if you live in an urban area. The insect population is collapsing, in part because we have…
