Alternatively titled mod Asuka offends the fandom. I hated it. Let's get that straight I hated and if I wasn't a completionist I would have dropped it. I refuse to read it again so we are going off of my memory xD Alright now others things about me: I love Asuka, I do ship asushin but not like this. NEVER like this. If you don't like asushin or ship someone else that's cool. I keep hearing people treat this as canon as well. IT IS NOT CANON. This is a fan thing. A doujin. This is as canon as Anima or the tribute book. NOT CANON. I read the "All Ages" version". Let's be frank: All ages" was not all ages. There is a lot of blood and gore, suicide on screen, abortion is alluded to as well. Some heavy stuff I don't think everyone would expect. Oh and even without the sex scenes you can really tell this is hentai. Asuka mentions having sex for a week straight (what are they Misato and Kaji from college now?) And Shinji comes home to completely naked Asuka the day he tells her he loves her (Asuka since when are you that forward?). So basically trigger warnings for this fix include suicide, themes of depression and mental illness, implied abortion, gore and blood, lots of gore and blood, sexual themes. Quick overveiw: - That's not how hair dye works Rei - Shinji straight up murders Kaworu on sight - Shinji is an angel? - Asuka and Shinji have a child that is God? - Time travel convoluted - Gets over-complicated - Apparently being rejected equals suicide - Ritsuko apparently is a top scientist and abortion doctor - Asuka loses her personality as soon as a boy likes her - "All ages" means off screen sex for a week - "All ages" means up the gore factor - Asuka is basically Shinji's sextoy/ baby mama For those that don't know basically Shinji has a chance to redo the NGE time line and desires to spend a lot of time banging Asuka and being really destructive. Shinji has his mind from EoE, Asuka's mind is supposedly NGE Asuka but then she forgets everything after the MP Eva's are killed and it ends, oh there is also ghost EOE Asuka haunting Shinji and Asuka basically becomes Kyoko and pregnant. Oh I almost forgot Shinji is dying apparently but then he doesn't and basically he starts to lose it more and more because plot. Asuka is fridged and Shinji becomes angry with everyone over losing his love. Gendo tells him to let the hate flow through him and he kills angels. Suddenly we find out Shinji is an angel and mass produced Eva's attack and the angry Asuka ghost helps shinji because God is their child and why not. By deus ex machina the world is saved!!!! Also Rei is there and Toji beats her up because she feels unnecessary. That's how I motivate my friends too Toji, with violence! In the end Asuka and Shinji admit their love for each other (after losing all their memories) and apparently they get to live normal lives and EoE Asuka and Shinji accept each other. I could go on for a long time, basically it bugs me how out of character everyone is and how everyone takes a back seat to Shinji. Gendo basically wants Shinji to be him and to be honest I can't even remember what happened to him. Misato and Ritsuko were there too? Did they even do anything? Maya feels guilty because she lies to Shinji. It was super convoluted as soon as the Shinji is an angel multiple timelines thing kicked in, which tends to be the case for anything with time travel. Oh if you like Rei you won't want to read this one, her character is basically obsessed with Shinji and only feels jealousy towards Asuka. Not even a little in character. Rei spends the whole time going " Shinji hates me so I should die :( " Also Kaworu is basically a villian? I think? he was barely in it. Kaworu is lured to his death by Shinji. Shinji basically sets up a murder. That's harsh... and apparently he's not even an Angel this time but after his death he's dropped. If you hated everyone's characters maybe this is the thing for you. If you just want Asuka and Shinji together without the mental trauma and solving their problems well this might be what you want. I'm not saying you can't read it or like it but I am saying it doesn't deserve the acclaim fans give it. Personally, I really don't get this doujin, at all. Characters are not in character at all, the art is okay I guess (It's not in my tastes), It's not a good romance/ love story (Yes I enjoy fluff too sometimes, I go to Monkey's Taste and my Angelic Days manga) it's just... not Evangelion. It's just so... messy. I don't like Re-take, I don't get it's appeal. To end things on a positive note I did the love poem cute and I do like the idea of a redo. Shinji as an Angel is an interesting concept as well. There is lots of potential in fan fics. So that's my take on Re-take, you can agree with me, disagree, whatever you like!
