On Shadows of Saintfour 2: Timeless
Compared to Waterlily, this felt like a light read. I’m a little confused and uncertain about this book. I feel like I should know more than I actually do.
The Saintfour town from the previous book is now abandoned Old Saintfour, also known as the Upside Down. 😂 The toxic purple flowers grew like weeds and forced the citizens to evacuate. The people now live in New Saintfour and it seems that the population has increased, because it’s a city.
I don’t know what decade it is. They have smartphones and flatscreen TVs, but they also have Polaroid cameras. The clothing looks like the Y2K era, but fashion recycles anyway so idk. Maybe it takes place in the present.
I haven’t taken as many 💎 choices with this book so I don’t know much about the characters yet… but this is my impression so far.
This is Dex Hawk. I don’t know why he looks like a vampire. There weren’t any vampires in the last book, but you never know.
Seriously, can RC just make normal eyes? People with amber eyes still look human! I feel like I can’t take this guy seriously, especially since he always ditches school. Why bother going anyway? Commit or drop out and get a job!
I am such an old person. 😂
I’d honestly much rather have a LI that looks like this:
Do all LIs need to look like supermodels, especially in high school? I wish we could get different types of looks. Guy is already more interesting and has way more personality than Dex. I hope he doesn’t die.
Rudy is the MC’s next door neighbor and best friend. He’s also the star athlete and every girl is so in love with him. But of course, he’s secretly harboring feelings for his nerdy best friend. But she doesn’t look at him like that, because they’ve known each other since they were in diapers.
This is one reason why I didn’t want another high school story. We get the same characters over and over again.
Then there’s Poppy, the mean girl who runs a gossip blog. Her real name is Penelope, but she goes by Poppy. Idk why. Penelope’s way better. I guess it’s to match the purple flower, and her outfit is purple, and… she’s a toxic person? I hope she pulls a Steve and turns out to be cool.
Then there’s the nerd, Darren. He’s a genius who’s smarter than the teacher and built like an Olympic swimmer. So far I like him the best, but screen time has been less than the previous three. Shocker.
Lastly, there’s the basketcase. Alice. I don’t know anything about her yet. I just know she takes pictures of people without their permission and she has a skateboard. She’s barely around yet. She looks like Michelle Pfeiffer.
Rudy is the only LI that could possibly pass for a high schooler. Everyone else looks like they’re in their late 20s.
So far, the story isn’t scary. I mostly just feel bad for Miranda.
There are two paths: Courage or Caution. I chose to do Courage, but I’m thinking it might be more suspenseful if I do Caution. I don’t know if I like the MC yet. She’s so focused on her journalism project that I have a hard time picturing her in a romance. I think she’s a little annoying, so I might go back and try the Caution route instead.
We only got 2 episodes so I still don’t have much of an impression yet. This seems more Stranger Things than Shadows of Saintfour to me. I love Stranger Things, so I hope this builds into something just as suspenseful and fun.
