Everyone, itâs done. The longest fic I have written (longest anything Iâve written, letâs face it) is finally complete.
The Sound of Silence has been such a whirlwind adventure for me, and I could not have done it without so much support. Thank you so much to everyone who has read this, liked this, and enjoyed it. I am truly and deeply humbled by the love and support Iâve been given to write and complete this fic.

Heeeey, what you think about RavNyx(or NyxRav,idk)?Hope you have nice day!-RuK anon
*stares at message**clears throat and takes a deep breath*
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
THE RAREST OF RARE PAIRS.THE CHARMING HEROAND THE CHARMLESS BUTTHEAD.
RAVNYX NYXRAV HOWEVER THE DYNAMIC WORKS, THEYâRE AAAAAAAAAAAH!
*clears throat again*
AnywaysâŚ
RuK Anon, you ask me a great question because RavNyx is one of those severely under-appreciated ships that I eager wait for more content of! Like, legit. I have ArdyRei and RavNoct pretty high up there on my list of Ravus ships. But the idea of RavNyx slips just in between those two. Because legit, I REALLY LIKE THEM TOGETHER BECAUSE DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY FUN TROPES THESE TWO CAN BE APART OF??
Rivals Turned into Lovers Trope!
The âI Fell In Love The Moment I Saw You, but Youâre All WTF Dude?!â Trope!
The âI Thought You Liked My Sister, so I Hated You. But It Turns Out You Like Meâ Trope!
The âYou and I Are Not So Differentâ Trope!
The âYOU GOT YOUR ARM BURNED OFF TOO SO WEâLL HELP HEAL TOGETHERâ Trope!
*screams even louder*
I legit can think of some many reasons why this ship would be awesome, and Iâd love to see more content with themâŚ! Whether its some comedy with the charming knight trying to flirt with prince charmless, or some pretty hardcore angst about loyalties and the desire for power. IâM REALLY HAPPY YOU ASK ME ABOUT THESE TWO BECAUSE I REALLY LIKE THEM AND IâM GLAD YOU BROUGHT THEM TO MY ATTENTION AGAIN.
Now I wanna write stuff with them once again. C: Yeeeeee~
In 2020 I have worked on 69 fics on Ao3.
This year I have written over 1,455,759 words.
Thank you for all who indulged me this year, read my fics, and encouraged me through it all! Here's to (over) the next million words next year!
(Links under the cut)
I am gonna ask for the most random and out there thing. Headcanons or ficlet. I don't mind either way. Okay. Hear my poly ass out. (or dont and throw my ask in the garbage where it belongs if it's not your thing. Ravus/reader/nyx. Poly ship. All three. Dating. Reader character finding out and telling the boys, she is pregnant. Who is the father? Do they care? Fluff? Angst? Do as you will. I love your stuff and will take anything.
So I wrote this more as a conversation for the day after the news was told. But it was mostly my excuse to write silly Nyx and Ravus banter. I normally donât write polyamorous relations and stuff, but I thought itâd be cute to write. c: Ravus/Reader and Ravus/Nyx, and Nyx/Reader and Nyx/Ravus! All the combinations and all silly too, I hope. No reader dialogue here, but have some Ravus and Nyx gossip!
Hope you enjoy nevertheless! c:
âThis is yourgoddamn fault, Nyx Ulric.â
âMy fault?â The brown-haired man seemed almost shockedand baffled by the other manâs accusations. Green eyes narrowed for a moment ashis wrist flicked upwards as if gesturing for the white-haired man to offersome sort of explanation. âHow was I supposed to know that this would happen,Ravus? Wasnât she on the pill or something?â
Ravusâs eyes narrowed at Nyx, but soon took themselvesaway from the hero of the hour as the high commander began to beat the milkinto his tea to mix it. âShe was, but she outright told you that she needed tocease taking them. Her health was more important than those pills, and you knewit.â
âI didnât think sheâd be off them that soon! Thinks justhappened, and things got sexy that night, and what do you know? Itâs themorning after.â Nyx let out a heavy sigh, slouching into his place as hepropped his head up with his arm. It was hard to try keeping everything in aloud whisper as the two men sat in the cafĂŠ together. Having to wait for theirpartner was unbearable with this kind of tension, especially when both werestill trying to cope with the sudden news that their partner was pregnant. Yes,they had heard that right. Pregnant.Meaning that there would be a kid coming soon. That wasnât something either ofthem could handle, and yet here they were. Nyxâs eyes were left wide as hefound his mind wandering. Oh god⌠It was going to happen. That kid was going tocome out into this world and see what a bad father he would be.
Though he suddenly stopped as he looked up at thedisgruntled Ravus, who stared off as he absent-mindedly stirred his tea withsuch aggression that he threatened to shatter the cup. Nyxâs eyes narrowedbefore he leaned forward with his arms on the table. âHow come itâs my faultanyways? Didnât you sleep with her too?â
Ravusâs grip tightened on the tea cup, knuckles turningwhite as his lips pressed themselves together as tight as they could. ââŚI didnothing of the sorts.â
âYouâre a really shitty liar, Ravus. Iâm pretty sure shetold me that you two had sex before she had sex with me.â
âAnd last I recall, it was you and I who made love rightafterwards.â
âHey. Donât question the mood, Ravus. It happens.â Nyxlet out another sigh, hand running itself along his undercut as his eyebrowsfurrowed. âShit, man⌠Iâm not ready for a kid. I canât even pay my bills ontime â or cook for myself some nights. How the hell are we going to raise a kidtogether?â
Before Ravus could reply, it was a little old lady whochimed into the conversation, overhearing the two bickering as she stood inline for her venti frappe. âOh, you two are having a baby? Congratulations, youtwo! Iâm sure the surrogate mother will make your baby look so cute!â
Nyx and Ravus froze, staring at the woman before staringat each other. Ravus had to clear his throat as the silence settled in afterthe awkward statement. âRegardless⌠If this is what she wants, then we mustabide and show our dedication to her wishes. Raising a child will not becomplicated, so long as you are willing to learn how to act like the father youwere chosen to be.â
ââŚYouâre acting as if youârestill not the father, Ravus. I actually keep condoms in my wallet, just incase. What do you do?â
Ravus looked directly at Nyx, staring at him as he raisedhis teacup and looked at him over the edge of his teacup. Why was Ravus soconfident that it wasnât him? Nyx took a moment to register Ravusâs gaze andbody language as he heard metal tapping against the wooden table. The heroended up letting out a groan, rubbing his hand over his face as he grumbledunder his breath. âOh, goddamnit. Ravus.â
âThe miracles of this so-called âdoggy style.ââ Ravus scoffedto himself as he took as sip of his tea. He set it down soon afterwards, reachingout and taking the heroâs hand into his own and shaking it just enough to bringNyxâs attention to him. âNevertheless, Nyx Ulric, you will be a fine father â regardlessof whether or not you think you are ready for the task. Because in the moment,no one is every truly ready. But as time passes and you begin to learn, theexperiences along the way will help you become the father you were meant to be.â
Nyx found his eyes wandering down, taking in Ravusâswords with a small nod as he let out a sigh. âFor a geek like you, you can saysome pretty profound things, Ravus.â
âAs they say, âgeeksâ shall inherit the world.â Ravusgave a small nod in response, bring Nyxâs knuckles up to his lips and placing asmall kiss in them. But he soon rose from his place, adjusting his coat andpushing his bangs out his face. âNow then, if you will excuse me, I will betaking my leave now.â
âWhat? But she said she was going to meet us and-â
âLast I heard, it was youthat was the father. Not I. I have to cater to my work in order to supply theboth of you a suitable place to live. And now, to raise your child.â
âItâll be your kid too!â
âNot until it becomes capable enough to hold a decentconversation. Then I shall claim ownership.â
Nyx frowned at Ravus, standing up as well as if to goafter the commander. âRavus! You canât just leave me here. This wasnât theplan, Ravus! This conversationâs going to be so awkward!â
âYou are the hero, Nyx.â The high commander leanedforward, placing a mocking little kiss on the guardâs lips before he stood uprightagain and made his way to the door. âSince when did heroes ever need plans?â
Nyx was left standing there, gawking at the audacity ofthe high commander before he let out a heavy sigh and hung his head in defeat.Well then⌠One step at a time, he guessed.

Ravus couldnât sleep. Which wasnât generally unusual for him, but his reason for it tonight was what perplexed him.
Noctis seemed to sleep soundly enough across from him, apparently unburdened by the vacancy between them. His skin was hazy with a sheen of silver in the moonlight, dozing comfortably in the aftermath of their more discomforting indulgence of each other. The pristine planes of his back were struck through with pink lines, flogged by the drag of Ravusâ magitek nails down his skin. Noctis said that it didnât bother him â that he enjoyed it, in fact â so Ravus never let it bother him.
But it bothered him now that the medium between them wasnât there to soothe those angry marks. Something grew cold in him, staring at them, and failing to remember how softer hands than his nursed those red tracks from that delicate white skin.
âAnd you think Iâm the one whoâll end up getting us in trouble,â Nyx would tease, settled firmly over a squirming Noctis, with pretty smelling oil on his palms as he worked the claw marks from his back. âYou leave behind more evidence than I do.â
âI can always accuse your Galahdian savagery as the cause,â Ravus would snipe back, flexing the kinked joints of the accursed prosthetic and debating whether or not he should find a way to blunt the nails.
Nyx would laugh, short and rough, and maybe the heel of his palm would dig into the divots of Noctisâ back in response to the insult, making the prince whine. He was as aroused by Nyxâs gentle ministrations as he was by Ravusâ rough handling of him, which was how they made the whole equation equal out to such a satisfying sum. Ravus was the firm hand to Nyxâs light touch, and Noctis content to be the happy medium between the two.
Ravus just never realized how much he relied on Nyx to make that compromise.
âWhat?â
Noctis blinked back at him, eyes as misty as the blue dawns of Tenebrae. He had an almost supernatural sense for people looking at him; a product of his position, learning how to be acutely aware of the watchful eyes on him at any given moment. Ravus was familiar with the feeling. He was more familiar with making finely crafted denials. Sometimes his best ones were silent.
âDid you want toâŚ?â
âNo.â
âThen what is it?â Noctis asked, his voice hoarse in the darkness.
âNothing.â
Usually, that was enough to silence Noctis. Ravus had taught him to take commands like that quite nicely. But then, usually Ravus never left himself open for him to ask questions in the first place. Noctis winced as he rolled over to face him. The ache always looked so attractive on him, furrowing the fine lines of his brow and pressing the flushed pink of his lips together as he moved. Ravus liked him that way, proud of himself for being able to rend the unruly Prince of Lucis so raw.
Tonight, he didnât like it so much. He liked the perceptive tug of Noctisâ gaze even less.
âYouâre worried about him,â he said, as if Ravus were so easy for him to read.
Ravus should find the strength to correct that. He should dismiss these callow reflections on Nyx Ulric â as if he were so sentimental â and take advantage of his absence to properly school Noctis against thinking he could ever have the upper hand. That he would ever dare let him think that there was something to see past his frosty veneer. It would be simple enough to do after heâd already taken Noctis apart so thoroughly. It might even be cathartic for Ravus, to drive out the shade of Nyx through the princeâs shuddering pleas.
Try as he may to summon his enthusiasm for disciplining Noctis though, Ravus still felt himself sinking beneath the empty space. Nyx was an adequate lover, though a churlish companion. He didnât miss his company, nor Noctisâ, when he returned to Niflheim. It wasnât even that often that all three of them ended up in the same place together at once. It wasnât as if he was accustomed to feeling Ulricâs presence in whatever bed they landed in. His pleasure in the arrangement had more to do with having power over Noctis than it ever did with Nyx having a share.
But there was a certain security from Nyxâs side that Ravus didnât expect he would miss. There was safety in knowing he couldnât truly hurt Noctis, that there was someone that could heal any pains Ravus might inflict on him that he didnât know how to heal himself. With Nyx, it was safe for him to be at his worst with Noctis.
Ravus wasnât used to feeling safe. He didnât know that had been what he felt until it was gone.
âHeâll be back,â Noctis said, softly, hand caressing the cold sheets between them. âYou get used to it⌠eventually.â
It was clear to Ravus then that âeventuallyâ had yet to come for Noctis. He could see it in the faint crease of his forehead, hidden beneath the debauched fall of his hair, in how the smooth slope of his shoulder tensed as his fingers clasped the wrinkles of the bedsheets.
Maybe it was because Ravus knew what was out there on the frontlines that Nyx was facing. Maybe it was because heâd seen himself what the Empire was making in their mad scientistsâ labs. Maybe he did feel a little guilty, literally sleeping with his enemies only to send one out to be slaughtered by his own side.
He didnât cross the space between him and Noctis. That would be too much like pretending Nyx wouldnât be back to claim it for himself. Instead, he set his hand next to his, the one that wasnât cold and unfeeling and only capable of inflicting pain. He didnât hold Noctisâ hand and tell him it was all going to be okay, because he wasnât a silly boy that believed in lies and that everything would come up daisies. He didnât want Noctisâ comfort either, but the princeâs little finger still brushed against the side of his hand, like he was asking permission to hold it.
Just this once, Ravus let him.
---
The Kingsglaive returned the very next day. Ravus could never accuse Nyx of having bad timing.
Ravus only had an hour before he was set to make his flight back to Gralea, and he hadnât planned on taking that hour to say goodbye to Nyx, but Noctis insisted. Noctis was more willful when Nyx was nearby, thinking he could be the one making demands of Ravus. Another reason not to miss Ulric when he was away.
Watching Noctis tackle him with kisses once they found a place to be alone, even more of a reason. Ravus lingered by the door, arms crossed, thoroughly disgusted by the wanton urgency of the princeâs kisses, and Nyxâs endeared smirk between each one. They were disgusting. Always had been. Whereas Ravus could constraint Noctisâ passion when they were alone, Nyx encouraged boundless affection.
It made Ravus feel sick. Sicker when Nyx came up for air just to turn that wicked smirk on him.
âDid you miss me too?â he asked.
Ravus scowled. His stomach felt warm. Must have been his lunch.
"Why don't you leave this to someone who knows what they're doing?" for RavNyxNoct :3
ravus is such a brat and this is why they love him, thatâs my tagline for this fic :3
-----
âWhy donât you leave this to someone who knows what theyâre doing?â
âDo you know someone who does?â
Nyx clamped his teeth down on whatever retort he had in response to that back-handed comment. He had to be the bigger man here â he had to be the bigger man, anywhere, really. But no one manâs presence demanded he step his patience up to the plate more than Ravus Nox Fleuret.
âYeah,â Nyx said. âMy mother. Who taught me everything I know.â
He stared Ravus down, daring him to challenge the sanctity of maternal legacy. He knew he wouldnât. Of all the topics they agreed to disagree on â out loud, debate style, often to prove a point â this was not one of them. Ravus had to grit his teeth and let it go. He was an asshole, but he was a gentleman. He wouldnât insult another manâs mother.
âFine,â Ravus muttered. âIâll defer to your expertise this once. Assuming you have any.â
âGood!â Noctis piped up before Nyx could rally a comeback. âYou can come keep me company in the meantime, then.â
If anyone ever told Nyx that Noctis was not a good diplomat, he wished he could film moments just like this was to present as evidence. Because there was no greater test of his diplomatic patience than wrangling Ravus to release control. It was a Astralian task some times, and it made it hard to understand why Noct loved him so much â or why Nyx did for that matter, despite his better judgment.
Noctis managed to coax his princely counter-part to his comfy couch. It was a trap, Nyx knew, because once one sat on that couch it was hard to get up off it again. If not in part of how comfortable it was, then in part of how Noctis tended to use his relaxing victim as a part of the furniture himself. There was no escaping his clutches once he stretched out on the sofa and rested his head in Ravusâs lap. It was for the Commanderâs own good, lest Nyx take the nearest meat skewer and poke it in his eyes.
âWeâre royalty, Ravus,â Noctis pointed out. âWe should be the ones served, not serving.â
The prince flitted a wink at Nyx as the glaive rolled his eyes, returning to the empty kitchen to resume his work. Speaking to Ravusâs ego was another sure-fire way to keep him clear of all the kitchen utensils Nyx could use as murder weapons.
âYeah, yeah, Iâm your humble servant, Your Highnesses,â Nyx said, feeding into the façade (he wore the pants in this relationship and they all knew it â though Ravus was still in denial).
âNyx will make us something fit for two kings,â Noctis promised before Ravus could open his mouth to suggest otherwise. âJust relax.â
That was a tall order for the high-strung High Commander, but with Noct planted on his lap and Ravus too polite â though prickly about it â to make him move, he wasnât going anywhere. Unfortunately, not moving from the couch didnât mean he couldnât move his lips.
âLetâs hope he doesnât have double regicide in mind, then.â
âOnly single regicide,â Nyx countered. âExtra hot peppers in your portion, got it.â
When Ravus rolled his eyes, Nyx could practically hear it without looking at him. Ravus was a man whoâs derision dripped off of him like an acid waterfall, barreling down on Nyxâs shoulders until they burned. But heâd survived far worse fires than the scorn of a spoiled, sanctimonious sovereign that thought he was a chef.
Granted, Nyx didnât know the first thing about Tenebrae cuisine, which was the object of todayâs endeavor, but he was sure he could do it better than a man who had never touched a daggerquil breast in his life. One day, if he ever developed the patience, Nyx would love to educate Ravus on the cathartic qualities of a cooking a meal for oneself. Bread-making, that would be good for Ravus. Lots of punching dough, Nyx thought he might enjoy that.
But not today. Today, he was not a saint prepared to sacrifice his own self-worth for the sake of suffering the countless barbs against his character in an effort to enlighten him. Nyx could sacrifice a lot for love, but not that much.
âSure you donât need help?â Noctis asked, though he made no move to get up from his sprawl.
âYou just want to make sure I donât add arsenic to his.â
âI mean, I wouldnât put it past you.â
âItâs a valid concern,â Ravus growled.
Noctis reached up and batted at his mouth in a lazy effort to make him be quiet. Nyx didnât need any more encouragement to sabotage their dinner. In the end, Nyx had enough self-restraint to keep all three plates poison-free, and managed to salvage whatever monstrosity Ravus had originally been attempting into something edible â although, it would have been hilarious if Ravus killed himself with his own cooking, with no help from Nyx.
âFor my royal leiges,â he announced with all the gravitas of a subservient pion to the throne. âGrilled daggerquil breast with roasted sweet pepper pasta.â
Noctis sat up and dug into his portion eagerly. Ravus watched him from the corner of his eye, as if he were waiting for his face to turn purple and prove that it was in face poison in the pasta sauce. Nyx was about ready to pin him down and force it down his throat. Once Noctis purred with approval around his mouthful of linguine, Ravus chanced a taste of his own. He met Nyxâs gaze, eyes narrowed, and did not let it go until he finished chewing.
âAdequate,â he said, simply. âAnd Iâm not dead.â
âYouâre welcome.â
It was the best compliment Nyx was ever going to hear from him. Heâd just have to take it. If not for his own sake, then for Noctâs, who was looking at him with the most earnest, hopeful, apologetic stare he could sneak past while Ravus was distracted. There was a lot that they didnât agree on, but one thing theyâd always agreed to set their differences aside for was Noct.
Somehow, he saw something in the both of them that he loved, when they couldnât be more different. And if Noct could see it, theyâd just have to trust that they would see it, too. They hadnât killed each other yet. Sitting on the couch, with Noctis between them, pressing a shoulder to Nyx and knee to Ravus so they were all connected by one point of contact, they could both agree that his happiness was worth it.
